Griffen Hopkins led Victor with scored a game-high 15 points, five rebounds and four assists as the Blue Devils claimed their first-ever state title. The sophomore shot 5-for-10 from the field and 5-for-7 from the foul line. Garrett Clar added 12 points and went 6-for-6 from the foul line, and Nick Leonard chipped in nine. Sean Berringan led Tappan Zee with 20 points, six rebounds, one assist and one steal. The senior went 7-for-10 from the field, 4-for-7 from the foul line and 2-for-4 from behind the 3-point arc. Jack Maloney added 18 points, five rebounds and two treys, and the senior went 7-for-14 from the field and 2-for-3 from the line. Tommy Linehan posted 11 points, three boards and two assists, and the sophomore went 5-for-7 from the line. For Irondequoit, Xavier Gissendanner led the Eagles with 18 points and eight rebounds. The senior also went 3-for-4 at the line. Ryan Heath added seven points, four assists and three boards, and Isiah Ballard contributed six points, eight rebounds and two assists. Luke Gilmartin led Westhill with 16 points, 13 rebounds, seven assists and four steals, and the Warriors advanced to the 2023 NYSPHSAA Class B Championship. Gilmartin registered seven points and netted a trey in a 25-point fourth quarter for Westhill, and the senior went 7-for-12 from the field in the game. Kameron Langdon scored 16 points including 10 in the first half as the Warriors got out to a 27-22 lead at the half. The junior added two assists and shot 8-for-13 from the field. Shawn Mayes posted 10 of his 15 points in the first half, and the senior hit a pair of triples, grabbed three boards and swiped a steal. Omar Robinson recorded all 12 of his points after the break, to go with five rebounds and three assists. James Derrick chipped in two points, two boards and two assists. For Newark, Kellen Foster scored 10 points, hit two triples and grabbed a rebound. Brayden Steve closed out his senior season with seven points, four boards and one assist in the effort. Jaypar Allen added six, and senior Raeshawn Howard had five and grabbed four boards. Daveon Wright and Nicholas Hayes each knocked down a trey. Tony Kanaley tacked on two.

AVOCA/PRATTSURGH (24-2) 64
Haden Abbott scored 17 of his game-high 21 points including a trio of 3-pointers to highlight a 13-3 run to close the first half, and Avoca/Prattsburgh went on to defeat Section III champion Hamilton, 64-41 in NYS Class D semifinal action Saturday at Cool Insuring Arena. The team will look to repeat as state champions when they face Chapel Field Christian (IX/20-5) in the NYSPHSAA Class D Championship on Sunday. READ MORE
