Chandler Reynolds scored the first five points in a 12-4 run to close the game, and fourth-seeded Sutherland clinched the 2023 Section V Class A2 championship. READ MORE. 

CLASS B1

No. 2 NEWARK (19-4) 60
No. 1 BATAVIA (18-5) 55
Brayden Steve led all scorers with 18 points including six in a 24-20 fourth quarter in favor of Newark, and the Reds won its 14th sectional title in program history. Steve hit a trey and went 3-for-4 from the line in the final stanza, and the senior netted three triples and went 9-for-10 from the line in the game. The 6-foot-5 forward was 7-for-7 from the line in the opening quarter. RaeShawn Howard added 15 points and shot 7-for-9 from the line, and the senior recorded six points and went 4-for-5 in the final frame. Kellen Foster added all 12 of his points after the break including three treys. Jaypar Allen made a pair of threes in the second quarter and went 4-for-4 from the line. Daveon Wright had three and made one-of-two free throws. For Batavia, Carter McFollins posted 16 points and went 5-for-5 from the line. Carter Mullen registered all 11 of his points in a 19-point fourth quarter for the Blue Devils. The sophomore buried three triples and made both his free throws as Batavia trailed 28-27 heading into the break. Mikey McKenzie made a trio of threes in the final quarter. Rashawd Christie chipped in eight and Ja’ Vin McFollins tacked on five. Cam McClinic had four. The Reds will play No. 4 Wellsville in the Class B regional qualifier on Wednesday.

CLASS B2

No. 3 Le ROY (13-10) 43
No. 4 WELLSVILLE (14-9) 52
Cody Costello scored 17 points including eight in the fourth quarter as Wellsville outscored Le Roy 28-23 following the break, and the Lions secured its sixth sectional title. The senior finished with seven rebounds, five assists and two steals. JJ Howard added eight of his 14 points in a 14-point Lions’ second quarter, and the sophomore grabbed 10 rebounds, swiped three steals and dished out two assists. Logan Dunbar posted nine points, nine boards and one assist, while Tyler Vogel scored five and pulled down two defensive rebounds. Asher Billings (3) netted a first-quarter trey and grabbed two boards. Aidan Riley (2) tallied five boards, two assists and one steal, and Aiden Cowburn had two. For Le Roy, Merritt Holly led all scorers with 21 points, 14 rebounds and three blocks. The junior finished 9-for-15 from the field. Andrew Pocock added six points and four boards, and Maveric McKenzie had four assists, three rebounds and a steal. Aaric Luce chipped in five and grabbed a board, and Jean Agosto (2) grabbed five rebounds. Jace Jedrewski (3) and Cal Koukides (2) rounded out the Lions’ scoring. Jake Higgins had four rebounds and three assists. Wellsville will play Newark in the Class B regional qualifier on Wednesday.

CLASS D1

No. 3 NOTRE DAME-BATAVIA (17-6) 67
No. 1 AVOCA-PRATTSBURGH (21-2) 93
Avoca/Prattsburgh unloaded 33 points in the third quarter and ran Notre Dame Batavia off the Les Harrison Court in a 93-67 victory to win the 2023 Section V class D1 title at the Blue Cross Arena. It’s the Titans’ third consecutive block since merging the two schools in 2020. READ MORE

CLASS D2

No. 2 MOUNT MORRIS (17-6) 70
No. 1 JASPER-TROUPSBURG (19-4) 56
Ben Bacon finished the game with 15 points and four assists to lead Mount Morris to its fifth sectional title in program history. Mason Santini added 14 points including six in a 24-13 third quarter in favor the Blue Devils after the team trailed at the break, 35-34. The junior grabbed nine rebounds. Payton Bownds registered a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds, while the senior scored eight in the third quarter. Navier Ford finished with nine and 10 rebounds, and Bryson Constantino posted eight points and dished out three assists. Chase Young added six. Mount Morris will face Avoca-Prattsbugh in the Class D regional qualifier on Wednesday.
