A 2003 rematch is set to take place on Saturday with the winner claiming the Class B2 title. Le Roy is seeking its second sectional title in program history, while Wellsville is trying to win back-to-back sectional championships. Here’s the breakdown:

How they arrived here: LeRoy defeated No. 6 Haverling, 77-47 in the quarterfinals, before outlasting No. 2 Dansville, 49-47 to earn a spot in the finals. Wellsville knocked off No.5 World of Inquiry, 72-60 in the quarterfinals before taking down No. 1 Hornell, 51-46 in the semifinals.

History 101: This will mark the first meeting between these two teams this season. Le Roy is making its fourth sectional finals appearance, last reaching the finals in 1963, 1982 and 2003. The Oatkan Knights won the Class CCC title in 2003 when they defeated Wellsville, 48-44 at Blue Cross Arena. Le Roy made it to the semifinals of last year’s Class B2 tournament, losing to Mynderse 52-48. Last season’s Class B2 champs, Wellsville is seeking its sixth title in program history. The Lions captured the Class B2 title in 2022 with wins over Penn Yan (65-53), Dansville (60-52) and Mynderse (66-58).
What’s Next: The winner will play the Class B1 champion (either Batavia or Newark) in the NYS Class B Far West Regional Qualifier.
