The last two Class B1 champions will meet Friday to decide the fate of the 2023 title. Last year’s champ, Waterloo is seeking its third consecutive sectional title, and Palmyra-Macedon is hoping to avenge last year’s semifinal exit. The two teams will meet on Saturday in the 2023 Section V Class B1 Girls’ Basketball Championship. Here’s the breakdown:

How they arrived here: Waterloo defeated No. 8 North Rose-Wolcott/Sodus, 76-13 in the quarterfinals before knocking off No. 5 Midlakes, 85-43 in the semifinals. Palmyra-Macedon beat No. 7 Newark, 51-25 in the quarterfinals before outlasting No. 3 Livonia, 42-40 in the semifinals.

History 101: Waterloo defeated Palmyra-Macedon, 61-51 in last year’s tournament. The Tigers went on to capture the 2022 Class B1 title and advanced to the New York State Class B championship game. Both teams met twice this season on December 13th and January 27th, with each team earning one win. In their first meeting, The Tigers defeated the Red Raiders, 66-50, and the Red Raiders got a 62-57 win in the second contest.
Waterloo is seeking its 10th title in program history and fifth since 2013. The Tigers won its first title in 1992 when they won three consecutive Class B2 championships. Palmyra-Macedon is playing for its third title in program history and second since 2019. The Red Raiders captured their first title in 2001.
Waterloo has a record of 79 wins and 5 losses over the past four seasons. Four of those losses have been to Pal-Mac (the other was Schalmont of Section II in last year’s NYS Class B championship game).
What’s Next: The winner will play the Class B2 champion (either Dansville or Hornell) in the NYS Class C Far West Regional Qualifier.
An 11 a.m. p.m. tip-off is scheduled at Rush-Henrietta High School.
