ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Inclement weather forced the Class B2 opening round game between Wayland-Cohocton and host World of Inquiry to be moved from Wednesday to Thursday.
Having to wait another day to take their home court paid dividends for the Griffins.
Yacoub Tarawally posted a double-double, and two finished in double figures as No. 5 World of Inquiry jumped to a big lead at halftime on the way to a 61-43 victory over No. 12 Wayland-Cohocton, Thursday.
Tarawally and Ibrahim Bangura combined for 14 second-quarter points to pace a 33-14 effort heading into halftime.
“It was just coming out and being aggressive,” World of Inquiry head coach Willie Mason said. “My guys had a lot of energy from yesterday’s game being postponed. They woke me up at 9 o’clock this morning and asked to get in the gym before the game. We’ve been in the gym since this morning, so I knew the energy was going to be very good.”
Bangura connected once from behind the 3-point arc and scored nine of his 13 points in the second quarter.
“He’s our energizer bunny,” Mason said of the sophomore guard. “We follow his leadership, and his energy. We just told him to make sure he was creating pressure. He’s one of the best guards in the city when it comes to pressuring the ball. He was one of the big reasons we got out to a good start.”
