ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Shania Estrich led four in double figures with 14 points, and the No. 10 Greece Arcadia/Olympia girls’ basketball team, in its first year as a merged squad, advanced to the Class AA quarterfinals with a 56-39 victory over No. 7 Edison Tech, Wednesday night.
Estrich scored five in the second quarter and combined with teammate Kyleigh Bathe’s eight points during the frame helped Arcadia/Olympia to a 30-19 advantage at halftime.
“Over the past several weeks we’re just playing a lot better as a team,” head coach Kendra Damann said. “Everybody is kinda fulfilling roles and doing their individual roles better than we did a month ago. It’s been showing in the last several games played. Even in some of our losses I felt like we’ve been playing good team basketball.”

Eighth-grader Maddy Kielkowicz scored eight of her 10 points in the third quarter when the Lightning pushed its lead to 14 at 44-30 heading into the final eight minutes of play.
Bathe finished with 10 points in the win as did Aimee Turner to round out the balanced effort.
“We didn’t have that earlier in the season,” Damann said of the scoring effort. “Being a new team with kids coming from two different programs, there was a learning curve. It took some time for us to figure each other out and figure out how we were going to play as a team.”
With the win, Arcadia/Olympia (9-12) won its second straight against Edison (12-9). This after the Inventors took the first head-to-head meeting between the two teams.

“We were a little limited early on in the season. It was just all Shania. We didn’t have a lot of balance. Other teams figured that out, so it’s great to see some other kids like Kylie and Aimee and Maddy stepping up for us.”
The Lightning will face No. 2 Penfield (18-2) in the quarterfinals.
Katelyn Geraci (6) and Ava Taylor rounded out the scoring for Arcadia/Olympia.
Edison’s Gabriela Lopez topped all scorers with 17 points. Nakayla Costello added 10 points. Kaysia Jones (7), Chasity Edwards (2) and Jakayla Costello (2) also scored for Edison.
