Avon’s Josh Harter etched his name in the Section V Boys’ Basketball record book, Tuesday night.
The sophomore guard connected on 14 3-pointers and scored 42 points in an 88-57 Braves’ win over Mount Morris.
The 14 makes from behind the 3-point arc breaks the previous Section V Boys’ Basketball record of 13 set by Northstar Christian’s Ryan Garwood.

Harter connected on 14-of-25 attempts from behind the arc including 12 of his first 15 and handed out 12 assists while not committing a turnover. He hit seven 3-pointers in both halves. Overall, he shot 14-of-31 for the game.
The 14 triples in one game ranks second in New York State behind only Austin Uhl of Coleman Catholic’s (IX) who hit 15 3-pointers in a single game on January 15th, 2016.
Harter entered play averaging 11 points per game. His previous game-high was 20 which he reached twice. He had 21 points at halftime, Tuesday night.
The win was the second straight for Avon (10-2) and sixth in the past seven games. The Braves rank No. 20 NYSSWA Class C.
Michael Rowland added 17 points and 11 rebounds in the win. Hudson Volpe had nine points and 17 rebounds. Cael Driscoll accounted for eight points. Trevor Stroud (4), Kalman Dolgos (2), Lee Hartke (2), Austin Lattuca (2) and Matthew Malley (2) also scored for Avon which took a 42-23 lead into halftime.

Bryson Constantino led Mount Morris (7-4) with 14 points. Payton Bownds added 12. Owen Yencer (8), Navier Ford (6), Ben Bacon (5), Ethan Provino (3), Mason Santini (3), Aidan Stanley (3) and Ethan Martin (2) also scored for the Blue Devils.
Garwood hit 13 3-pointers on January 23, 2020. A touch of irony, earlier Tuesday evening Garwood’s younger sister, Alayna, scored the 1,000th point of her career.
More irony – Harter’s dad, Josh Harter Sr., was the opposing head coach when Greece Athena’s Jason McElwain (J-Mac), a team manager, came off the bench with four minutes to play during a game in 2006 and hit six-pointers as part of a 20-point performance. Harter coached Spencerport at that time.
