ROCHESTER, N.Y. – RIT sophomore forward Grady Hobbs scored a first-period goal that proved to be the difference in a 1-0 victory over visiting Mercyhurst in Atlantic Hockey action, Saturday, at the Gene Polisseni Center.
Hobbs intercepted a neutral zone pass on the right wing boards and dropped a puck to senior forward Caleb Moretz at the top of the faceoff circle. Moretz crossed a tough-angle feed off the end line back to Hobbs, who was open on the far post for a short finish with 4:07 on the clock
Tigers sophomore goaltender Tommy Scarfone stopped all 18 shots he faced, including nine in the third period, to preserve his second shutout of the season.
The game-winner from Hobbs was his first in an RIT sweater as well as his seventh tally of the season.
Moretz notched a point for the third-consecutive game, totaling two goals and two assists during the run. He also logged his 30th career assist and 49th career point.
Scarfone notched his fifth career shutout and second in four games after also stopping 29 shots faced in last Friday’s 3-0 victory at Bentley (Jan. 6) en route to his third Atlantic Hockey Goaltender of the Week citation.
RIT killed four Mercyhurst power plays, but finished 0-for-3 with the extra man.
Head Coach Wayne Wilson moved into a tie for 41st place in NCAA men’s hockey history with his 424th career victory.

RIT heads west for two games at Arizona State next Friday and Saturday (Jan. 20-21). Faceoffs are set for 9:05 p.m. EST and 6:05 p.m. EST, respectively.
