Ryan Heath scored seven of his game-high 19 points during a 13-1 run that spanned the end of the third quarter into the fourth quarter as Irondequoit grabbed a 13-point lead and held off Sutherland down the stretch to win back-to-back games.
Heath also scored four in a 9-0 run to start the second quarter as the Eagles pulled away from a tied game at 13 to take a lead they did not relinquish. Irondequoit (11-1) led at half a 28-22 lead, but Sutherland had a mid-quarter 8-2 run in the third to pull within one at 35-34. Sam Pisanelli and Luke Fliss each scored four for the Knights during this rally. Sutherland had multiple possessions where it could have taken the lead at this point but Irondequoit’s collapsing defense forced up tough shots in the paint or turnovers that the Eagles eventually turned into points in transition.
Sutherland (8-4) pulled within five points three times late in the fourth led by Pisanelli and Dutch Pestorius with four points apiece and Max Michalski’s five, but the Eagles hit enough free throws down the stretch to close out the game. Irondequoit held the Knights to zero points from beyond the arc for the night.
Xavier Gissendanner accounted for 16 points in the win. Quinn Vankerkhove added 10. Kenyon Lovett (6), Isaiah Ballard (4) and Ryan Boe (3) also scored for Irondequoit.
Pisanelli had a team-high 16 points for the Knights. Michalski and Fliss added 12 and 10 respectively. Everett Wilcox (8), Dutch Pestorius (4) and Mike Sacco (2) also scored for Sutherland.
