ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. – After trailing by 11 points at halftime, the Roberts Wesleyan University men’s basketball team pulled within six points of Molloy University with 8:54 remaining in their East Coast Conference matchup on Sunday afternoon.
The host Lions responded with a 7-0 run and held off the Redhawks 77-69 to bring an end to Roberts’ three-game winning streak.
Junior guard Abou Gbane scored 20 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead Roberts (3-6, 1-1 ECC). Graduate student Demani Smith added 12 points and junior Ja’Kair Sanchez contributed 11 points and 4 rebounds for the Redhawks.
Malik Brooks and Ryan Garwood both scored nine points for Roberts.
Roberts held a 25-12 advantage in points off turnovers, but Molloy held a 42-30 edge in points in the paint.
Roberts plays a non-conference game at Mercyhurst at 7 p.m. on Wednesday
