Sha’mere Freeman poured in 37 points to lead Franklin to its first win. Freeman buried seven of 14 three-pointers including four in the first quarter as the Quakers took a 32-31 lead into the second half. The junior added 20 points in the second half. Clarence Thompson (16) added four buckets from outside the arc, hauling down six rebounds and swiping five steals. Terence Thompson (13) scored eight points in the final quarter and brought down 12 rebounds. For Webster Schroeder, Jon McCaffrey led the team with 22 points, 14 of which came in the fourth quarter. Gio Schillaci racked up 21 points and went 3-for-3 from the line. A year ago, Mykel White was at best the fourth option on an Aquinas boys’ basketball team that advanced to the New York State Class AA Far West Regional. In a lineup surrounded by then seniors Myles Blackwood, Jack Bleier, Robert McCullough and Jordan Jordan, the 6-foot-2 guard served as a complimentary piece. Francis Nwokonko completed a 22-point tournament performance for Brockport with six points in the More Than A Game tournament championship game to claim MVP. Peter Leicht led the team in scoring with 17 points to earn all-tournament honors. Andrew Wilson (13), Owen Cummings (4) and Kaeden Laureano (2) all contributed for the Blue Devils. For Spencerport, Bryon Streb led the Rangers with 25 points and earned a spot on the all-tournament team. Hunter Streb totaled 12 points, and Marquis Tubbs (5), Kyle Milburn (4), Cam Khuns (3), Taron Beachum (2) and Miron Gurman (1) rounded out the scoring for the host team.

Jakson Schweigert connected on a pair of 3-pointers to score six of his 16 points in the third quarter when Arcadia stretched a 10-point halftime advantage to 20 in the consolation of the More Than A Game tournament. Austin DiNatale added four of his game-high 19 points in the third, and Lincoln Fling accounted for all seven of his points in the frame. DiNatale, Schweigert and Xavier Smith scored five points apiece in the first quarter when the Titans grabbed a 17-2 advantage. Marlon McCullough had nine points in the win. Odyssey’s Josh Tantalo connected on four 3-pointers and paced the Leopards with 14 points. Ma’Ron McDonald added nine. Jalonie Pittman and Cordell Young combined for 26 points for Eastridge in the first half as they jumped to a 41-19 lead and their first win of the season. Pittman converted six field goals in the first quarter and finished with 20 points for the game. Young added a three pointer and went 3-for-3 at the line in the half for a 20-point night. Alex Simmons collected 10 points including eight in the fourth quarter, and Zy Switzer and Ty Kunzer-Borrelli each dropped eight points. Jayden West (4), Jelyn Collins (3) and Ayden Pomales (3) rounded out the scoring for the Lancers. For Eugenio Maria de Hostos, Lavante Brown and Knekose Mack both led the team with 15 points. Jarvis Lewis (7), Justis Davis (6), Jayson Maldanado (4) and Eddy Bermudez (2) rounded out the scoring for the Hornets.

Jaivein Fell hit the game winning shot for Northeast with 1.1 seconds left to allow the Lancers to claim the Al Masino Memorial Tip-Off Tournament championship. Fell scored a team-high 34 points and grabbed six rebounds, earning most valuable player honors. Michael Cathey record a second straight double-double with 23 points and 14 rebounds and was also named to the all-tournament team. Chrishton Wester racked up 10 points and 10 rebounds. Loren Thomas, who assisted on the winning bucket, had 11 assists, six rebounds, five points and four steals. For Vertus, E’mere Fulton (27) and Ali Talhah (16) led the team in scoring. Jayden Ridley-Smith (12) and Terrance Clark (10) added to a Warriors attack that tallied 12 three-pointers on the night. Collin Gray scored 13 points and collected five rebounds to lead Dansville to a season-opening win. The senior also dished out three assists and swiped two steals. Dawson Wadsworth received the player of the game honor with five points, four rebounds and five assists. Reid Martin totaled eight points and three rebounds, while Ethan Canfield had six points, four rebounds and two assists. Tyler Harris led the Mustangs with three steals while also dropping five points. Aazan Sohail and Nate Gardner each added a field goal. For Marcus Whitman, Brody Royston (9), Tariku Blueye (9), Myles Prendergast (7), Logan Storms (6) and Bryce Tomion (6) each contributed in the loss.

Maddox Timothy led three in double figures with 28 points and helped York build a 63-43 advantage after three quarters. The loss snapped Avoca/Prattsburgh’s 37-game winning streak and was the first setback since the two programs merged for the 2020 season. Jake Pangrazio added 15 points in the win and Joe Bauer had 14. Tyler Brady (9) and Connor Rodwell (8) also scored for the Knights.
“I was proud of our guys,” York head coach Ed Orman, Jr. said via email. “They made a lot of big shots tonight. Defensively we were solid at times but had some lapses too. Coach Putnam and his guys are just relentless with pressure and that was a heck of a test. We will take the W but have a lot to clean up and can’t wait to get back on the court for another tough challenge Tuesday in Hornell. A great start to the season though.”
A/P’s Haden Abbott connected on seven 3-pointers and led all scorers with 27 points. Sawyer Devoe finished with 22 points and 13 rebounds. Macoy Putnam had eight points and 12 assists.
