Running back Tyson Totten provided all the offense for Pembroke and the Dragons claimed the first sectional title in program history, defeating Canisteo-Greenwood 40-20 Saturday at Pittsford Sutherland High School to claim the 8-Man title.
Totten rushed for 376 yards on 40 attempts and reached the end zone five times. The junior was forced into a larger role when senior quarterback, Cayden Pfalzer exited the game in the first quarter due to an injury. The back has totaled 2,510 rushing yards and 39 total touchdowns over 11 games, averaging 228.2 rushing yards per game.
Caleb Felski added 100 yards and a touchdown on the ground. Both backs worked behind the blocking of JJ Gabbey, Octavius Martin, Jayden Mast, Jayden Bridge, Ben Steinberg and Chase Guzdek.
Pembroke (No. 3 NYSSWA Class 8-Man) has now won nine straight games and handed the Redskins their first loss of the season. The Dragons are now 1-1 in 8-Man title games, previously reaching the finals in the Spring of 2021 when they lost to top-seeded Red Jacket. The team has outscored opponents 129-to-60 in its three playoff wins, averaging 43 points per game during that stretch. The defense held top-seeded Canisteo-Greenwood, who was averaging 46.7 points per game coming in, to a season low 20 points.
In their last meeting, the Redskins beat the Dragons, 28-14 on September 9th.
Pembroke will next face Morrisville-Eaton (III) in the regionals on Friday. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Pittsford Sutherland High School.
