Canisteo-Greenwood and Pembroke to play for 8-Man title

For the second time this season, the two top-seeded teams in Class 8-Man will meet with title hopes looming. Here’s what you need to know:

No. 1 seed CANISTEO-GREENWOOD REDSKINS (10-0/No. 1 NYSSWA Class 8-Man)
vs.
No. 2 seed
PEMBROKE DRAGONS (9-1/No. 3 NYSSWA Class 8-Man)

How they arrived here: Canisteo-Greenwood defeated No. 8 Mynderse 36-6 in the quarterfinals before beating No. 4 Red Jacket 68-34 in the semifinals. Pembroke opened with a 49-22 win over No. 7 Wellsville and beat No. 3 Bolivar-Richburg 40-18 in the semifinals.

Players to watch for Canisteo-Greenwood: Keegan Foote Sr. RB/LB 1,434 rushing yards, 23 rushing touchdowns, 94 rushing attempts; Beau Zeh Jr. RB/LB 678 rushing yards, 10 rushing touchdowns, 70 rushing yards; Collin Cox Jr. QB/DB 314 passing yards, seven passing touchdowns, 14-of-23 passing, one interception, 290 rushing yards, three rushing touchdowns, 31 rushing attempts; J.J. Reese 150 yards receiving, four receiving touchdowns, five receptions; Timmy Dale Jr. RB/LB 241 rushing yards, four rushing touchdowns, 39 rushing attempts; Lucas Mason Jr. RB/LB two punt return touchdowns, two kick return touchdowns. 

Players to watch for Pembroke: Tyson Totten Jr. RB/LB 2134 rushing yards, 30 rushing touchdowns, 97 receiving yards, 44 passing yards, 177 return yards, 73 tackles, 34 total touchdowns; Cayden Pfazler Sr. QB/DB 402 passing yards, six passing touchdowns, 678 rushing yards, 12 rushing touchdowns, 44 receiving yards, one receiving touchdown, 65 tackles, six interceptions; Jayden Mast Jr. OG/DT 57 tackles, two sacks; Caleb Felski So. FB/LB 407 rushing yards, six rushing touchdowns, 486 kick returns yards, two kick return touchdowns, 18 kick returns, 59 tackles; Jayden Bridge So. OG/DE 51 tackles, three sacks, one blocked punt; Jacob Dulski Sr. WR/DB 34 tackles, three interceptions, seven fumble recoveries; four pass breakups.

Last meeting: Canisteo-Greenwood knocked off Pembroke, 28-14 on September 9th. 

History 101: Both teams are looking for their first sectional title on record (since 1977).

Keys for Canisteo-Greenwood:

  1. Be disciplined on defense, especially the defensive line
  2. Keep Totten under control –
  3. Offensive line must control the line of scrimmage

Keys for Pembroke:

  1. Limit Canisteo’s big-play ability
  2. Take care of the football – limiting turnovers
  3. Avoid penalties 

A 12 p.m. kickoff is scheduled for Saturday at Pittsford Sutherland High School.
