HILTON, N.Y. – Jeffery Broadnax powered in a pair of first-quarter touchdowns to ignite Hilton early in a 28-7 sectional semifinals victory over Brighton. This was the Cadets’ second win over the Bruins in the last four games after Rich Lipani’s squad came out on top, 35-20, in their regular season matchup back on October 13th. This is the first time in 20 years the Cadets advance to the sectional final as well after 11 consecutive setbacks in their semifinal appearances.

Broadnax tallied both scores on back-to-back drives. On the Cadets’ second possession starting at the Bruins’ 46-yard line, the senior running back burst through the line of scrimmage and two tackles for a 37-yard rush. Broadnax gained seven more yards to put the ball on the one-yard line. Despite being stuffed on second-and-goal, the 5-foot-8 tailback found space on the right side and burrowed into the end zone.

On the following drive, Broadnax negated the Cadets being pinned in their own territory with a 73-yard relay to the house on the very first play.

Robert Lowry and Colton Thorp both rounded out the scoring with a touchdown apiece courtesy of penalties. After the Bruins utilized the ground to get on the board midway through the second quarter, Thorp took advantage of a false start with a 31-yard rainbow to Luke Lockhart on fourth down.

Geoffrey Broadnax finished with 158 yards on 21 carries. Robert Lowry had 61 yards on 7 carries. Overall, the Cadets finished with 211 rushing yards on 31 carries and posted 275 yards of total offense. Karl Khuns had four tackles, including one tackle for loss and a sack, and three quarterback pressures.

For Brighton, junior quarterback Tyler Martinovich accounted for the team’s lone score with a one-yard keeper to cut its deficit to 21-7.

Hilton advances to the sectional final to take on top-seeded Webster Schroeder in a rematch of the season opener. The Warriors held on for a 21-14 victory back on September 2nd. Webster Schroeder defeated Churchville-Chili, 35-14, in the other class A1 semifinals matchup. The class A1 sectional final is scheduled for next Friday at 5 p.m. at Fairport High School.
