Fillmore and HAC to decide Boys’ Class D1 title

One team is seeking its second straight title. The other is looking for its first championship in 17 years. Fillmore and Harley-Allendale-Columbia will meet Friday to decide the 2022 Section V Class D1 Boys’ Soccer Championship. Here’s the breakdown:

No. 1 seed FILLMORE EAGLES (18-0-0/Allegany County Division I) vs. No. 2 seed HARLEY-ALLENDALE-COLUMBIA WOLVES (15-2-0/Finger Lakes West Division)

How they got here: Fillmore (No. 2 NYSSWA Class D) opened with a 9-0 win over No. 8 seed Alfred-Almond in the quarterfinals before advancing past No. 4 seed Keshequa, 3-0, in the semifinals. Harley-Allendale-Columbia (No. 8 NYSSWA Class D) defeated No. 7 seed Genesee Valley/Belfast, 1-0, in the quarterfinals and took down No. 6 seed Arkport-Canaseraga, 2-1, in the semifinals.

Total goals scored: Fillmore (92), Harley-Allendale-Columbia (53)

Total goals allowed: Fillmore (7), Harley-Allendale-Columbia (9)

Trends: Fillmore has pitched 13 shutouts this season, including three straight. The Eagles have scored three-plus goals in four consecutive matches as well. Harley-Allendale-Columbia has won six straight.

Players to Watch for Fillmore: Luke Colombo Sr. GK 83 saves, six goals allowed, 1,420 minutes in goal; Jack Cool Jr. MF nine goals, two assists; Layton Sanasith Jr. A seven goals, three assists, one save, one goal allowed, 20 minutes in goal; Henry Sardina Jr. MF 13 goals, seven assists; Eben Schilke Jr. MF nine goals, 13 assists; Zach Sisson Jr. MF five goals, 13 assists; Mitchell Ward Sr. A 39 goals, 18 assists; Brent Zubikowski Sr. D two goals, six assists

Harley-Allendale-Columbia: Alessandro Bosa Fr. MF nine goals, nine assists; Finn Costello Jr. MF 12 goals, two assists; Carlin Kennedy Sr. A 14 goals, 14 assists; Thomas Riveros Sr. GK 43 saves, nine goals allowed, 1,373 minutes in goal

Coaches: Jarrett Vosburg (Fillmore), Ted Hunt (Harley-Allendale-Columbia)

History 101: Fillmore is making its fourth consecutive sectional final appearance and seeking its second straight title and third in the last 11 years. In 2019, the top-seeded Eagles won the D1 block over Avoca, 2-0, and concluded the season with a state semifinals berth. In 2020, the Eagles finished as the top seed in sectionals again, but came up short in the championship match to Keshequa, 2-0. Last season, the Eagles’ 2-0 title victory over Arkport-Canaseraga propelled them to the state final. Harley-Allendale-Columbia is seeking its third sectional title in program history and first since winning back-to-back class C championships in 2004 and 2005. The Wolves are making their first appearance in this match since 2013 as well when, as a No. 4 seed, they fell to Jasper-Troupsburg, 2-0.

A 7:30 p.m. kickoff is scheduled at Perry High School.
