WEBSTER, N.Y. — The Webster Thomas boys’ soccer team made the most of time off between the end of the season and the opening of sectionals.
The Titans scored early and often Friday night to secure a spot in the Class A quarterfinals.
Brendan Adams and Cory Jarvis combined for four goals and two assists as No. 2 Thomas coasted to a 5-1 victory over No. 15 Brockport.
“We had a great four days of practice,” Thomas head coach Steve Grose said of the work earlier in the week. “It was really good. We worked on some shape. We tried a few different things. Scoring is a big thing for everybody especially this time of year. How are you going to find your goals? That was one of the things we focused on.”
Thomas needed less than 10 minutes to grab a two-goal lead Friday night, and the Titans took a commanding 3-0 lead into halftime.
Adams opened the scoring in the sixth minute when the Monroe County Division II Co-Player of the Year nodded home a Vladimir Lavrynenko corner kick for the first goal of the game.
Three minutes later, Adams threaded a ball through the Brockport backline that Jarvis took in stride, juked to his left and finished into an empty net.
“We were efficient tonight,” Grose said. “We were really good that way.”

Jarvis worked a give-and-go with Quinn Halsdorfer for his second goal of the night with less than three minutes remaining in the half.
The senior attacker has five goals and five assists in the Titans past five games.
“Cory was fired up from the get-go tonight,” Grose stated. “He made such a big difference.
“He’s been coming on the past few games. He’s unselfish, but he’s really good around the goal when you give him a chance.”
Any chance for a Brockport rally in the second half was quickly dismissed as Jarvis set up Caleb Jones for a header along the far post :29 seconds after the break.
“We changed our shape. The beginning was a little bit of an experiment to see how it would go. The second half was more of our normal shape. I think they felt more comfortable in that.”

Six minutes later, Jarvis redirected a Charlie Petzing cross for his third goal of the game.
“The halftime talk was spirited,” Grose said. “They were encouraging each other. You could see that coming right out in the second half.”
The win was the fifth straight for Thomas (12-3-1) which started the season at 7-1-0.
“I can’t think of a practice or even a game where I’ve been disappointed in the effort. The effort is always there. They’re very receptive to coaching which isn’t always the case these days. They’re very receptive to things. They’ll try things.”
Thomas will face the winner of No. 7 Aquinas and No. 10 Honeoye Falls-Lima next Tuesday.
Brandt Marshall scored the lone Brockport goal in the final minute of play.

Thanks for a great article! Just a heads-up that Brendan Adams is referred to as “Andrews” in paragraph 6. Kind of ironic as I’m his mom and Andrews happens to be my maiden name. 😊
