The Syracuse football team has entered the top 25 rankings for the first time since the 2019 season.
The Orange (4-0) checked in at No. 25 of the American Football Coaches Association poll for week five, receiving 74 votes. Syracuse garnered 22 votes for the Associated Press Poll.
Syracuse was ranked No. 22 in the AP preseason poll for the 2019 campaign. The Orange then moved up to No. 21 following a 24-0 week one win over Liberty. That team, however, quickly dropped out of the rankings following a 63-20 loss to Maryland in week two.
For this season, the Orange are off to their best start since the 2018 campaign. Syracuse has a chance to go 5-0 when they face FCS opponent Wagner later this week. The last time the Orange started 5-0 was in 1987.
Quarterback Garrett Shrader has been at the forefront of Syracuse’s success so far this season. The junior has completed 73-of-110 passes (66.4%) for eight touchdowns and an interception. On the ground, Shrader has carried the ball 60 times for 212 yards and four TDs.
