Anthony Ramon Diaz and Amari Young both scored a pair of touchdowns as East/World Of Inquiry rolled to a 33-6 victory over Wilson Magnet/Early College, Friday night. It was the Eagles’ third consecutive win to open the season.
Young recorded both of his tallies in the first half. With the defense and special teams giving the offense a short field, the senior running back only needed one play to gallop 14 yards into the end zone and extend the Eagles’ lead to 14-0 in the opening period. Then, Young made up for a 10-yard penalty with a 19-yard red zone reception right before halftime.
Diaz took advantage of short field as well for both of his touchdowns. The junior wideout anticipated a Wildcats’ pass from their own end zone for a 15-yard pick-six halfway through the second quarter. After the Eagles’ defense forced a turnover on downs at the Wildcats’ one-yard line, Diaz chugged into the end zone to cap off the game’s scoring in the third period.
Young led the offensive outburst with 122 rushing yards on 11 carries. Along with his pair of scores, Diaz amassed 10 tackles, including three for loss.
Kelvin Shepard posted the first score of the contest with a 14-yard touchdown catch three minutes into the game. The sophomore wide receiver accumulated 87 return yards on three punts and picked off a pass on defense as well. Senior linebacker Edwin Spencer led the dominant defensive pressure with 12 tackles, including two resulting in lost yardage. Jeremiah LaMar Tucker followed up with nine.
For Wilson Magnet/Early College, senior wideout Davion Lamar Singleton hauled in a 45-yard touchdown catch and an interception on defense to end the first half.
East/World Of Inquiry hosts Canandaigua next Friday in a rematch of the Spring 2021 Class A sectional final. Wilson Magnet/Early College plays Eastridge next Friday at 5:30 p.m. at Marina Auto Stadium.
