Noah Hill accounted for all of UPrep’s offense with four touchdowns as the Griffins made their class AA debut with a season-opening win. The senior quarterback tossed three touchdown passes among his 16 completions and scrambled for a score. Hill finished with 207 passing yards and 39 more on the ground. Junior wideout Juelz Russel hauled in two of Hill’s touchdown passes as he exploded for 142 yards on six receptions. Senior wide receiver Darius Poles snagged Hill’s other score, contributing four catches and 46 yards. Senior middle linebacker RaeJoughn Yeomas posted a team-high nine and a half tackles. Junior defensive end Isaiah Moonschein followed up with eight and added six quarterback hurries. Dekhari Carter recorded seven and a half tackles, including one for loss. Tyrell Simmons totaled four and a half tackles and picked off a pass for a 40-yard return. Quantel Greene, Jr. chipped in three tackles and one interception.

Daniel Johnson and Tyler Martinovich connected on two touchdowns as Brighton kicked off its campaign with a shutout victory. Martinovich was 13-of-18 from the pocket and tossed 71 of his 121 yards to Johnson. Johnson’s receiving yards came on eight grabs. Martinovich added 68 rushing yards on 13 scrambles as well. Sophomore running back Gavin Parks led the ground game with 15 handoffs, 66 yards and a score. Grady Hopkin deflected a pair of passes and snatched an interception. Overall, the Bruins’ defense accumulated 18 tackles for loss.

Cameron Mesh totaled three touchdowns as Spencerport established its dominance with a 69-point outburst. The senior running back dealt most of his damage in the trenches, gaining 75 yards on six carries, including one in which he found paydirt. Mesh added a 20-yard touchdown catch and 35-yard scoop-and-score. Taron Beachum and Rylan McLeod both tallied a pair of touchdowns. McLeod only needed three passes to collect 54 yards and his two scores. Similar to Mesh, Beachum had one touchdown on the ground and another through the air. Jake Aina and Jahyleen Quick both added a rushing score. Junior runner Anthony Hackett contributed a touchdown as well. Tyran Hoyte led the defense with five and a half tackles. Junior linebacker Jack Vickers followed up with five, including two for loss, along with a forced fumble and recovery. Aina forced a fumble as well as he contributed four and a half tackles. Mesh chipped in three tackles. For Greece Olympia/Odyssey, junior wideout Amari Colon-Brown led with 43 rushing yards, 28 receiving yards and a touchdown along with seven tackles on defense. MaRon McDonald amassed 99 rushing yards on nine carries. Senior linebacker Nicholas Callaghan led the defense with 10 tackles.

Torance Washington and Tyler Washington both scored a touchdown in the fourth quarter as Webster Schroeder rallied with 15 unanswered points in the final period.

Mekhi Christensen and Lamere Smith both scored a pair of touchdowns as Irondequoit won the first game of the 2022 Section V Football season. Smith punched in both of his scores on 66 rushing yards. Christensen ran for a touchdown and was the recipient of the other courtesy of Erik Barr. Overall, Christensen gained 93 all-purpose yards. Barr completed 8-of-12 passes for 89 yards. Brandon Graham accounted for 24 of those yards on three catches. Senior linebacker Andre Bigham guided the defense with eight tackles. Brandon Harris followed up with seven while Cameron Freeman and Braden Graham both tallied five. Harris and Joshua Luciano, who had four tackles, both recorded a sack.

EAST/WORLD OF INQUIRY (1-0) 54
The duo of Kelvin Shepard and Amari Young combined for 213 of the 371 rushing yards accumulated by East/World Of Inquiry in a season-opening victory. Young led with 111 yards on only six carries, scoring twice. Shepard followed up with 102 yards on five handoffs and two touchdowns as well. Sophomore running back Da’Mari Green contributed nine touches, 72 yards and a pair of scores. Anthony Hampton spearheaded the defense with 11 tackles, including a pair for loss. Junior linebacker Ervin Wiggins had two of his eight tackles result in negative yardage as well as recording a scoop-and-score.

For Livonia, senior quarterback Matthew Bean scrambled six times for 67 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Junior running back Kyle Weterrings broke through the line of scrimmage 18 times and gained 119 yards. Jack Kearney added eight carries and 62 yards.

Junior quarterback Matthew Meacham hurled three touchdown passes as Honeoye Falls-Lima cruised on Opening Night. Andrew Wanzenried corralled two of Meacham’s scores while Donnell Hall accounted for the other while adding a pick-six on defense. Ben Cook, Patrick Donahoe and Conor Finn all punched in a touchdown. Junior kicker Avery Rennoldson made program history by becoming the first female player to score in a game, converting 2-of-3 extra points.

Aavion Bethel, Mekhi Fortes and Cameron McClinic all scored in the fourth quarter as Batavia rallied for 21 unanswered points in the final period. The Blue Devils forced three takeaways resulting in three touchdowns. Trailing 7-6, McClinic only needed eight seconds to rumble 13 yards into the end zone. Bethel added insurance with a 12-yard score a minute later. Then Fortes secured the victory with a 57-yard gallop to the house with five and a half minutes remaining in the contest. Javin McFollins opened the scoring with a five-yard scramble into the end zone near the end of opening period. The senior quarterback led the offense with 192 all-purpose yards, including 153 through the air on 10-of-16 passing. Fortes tore up the turf with 81 rushing yards on five carries. McClinic followed up with 60 yards and Bethel had 57. Vincent Arroyo and Garrett Schmidt both accumulated 10 tackles on defense. One of Schmidt’s tackles resulted in negative yardage. Sheldon Siverling notched seven tackles, including one for loss. Brendan Burgess chipped in five tackles. For Wayne, Sean Nellis threw a 36-yard touchdown pass to Alek Reynolds for the lead in the third quarter.

Trenton Woods scored a trio of touchdowns as Alexander exploded for 407 yards of offense in a season-opening road win. Woods accounted for 155 of those yards through the air and spiraled a score to Kaden Lyons and Ben Merrill. The junior quarterback punched in the first score of the game on a one-yard sneak as well. Lyons finished with a pair of touchdowns as he bust loose for a 40-yard run to the house on a trap play in the third quarter. The senior fullback rumbled for 82 rushing yards. Tyler Marino capped off the scoring with a one-yard touchdown. Richard Townley contributed to the offensive outburst with 82 rushing yards and added five tackles on defense. Senior linebacker Christian Kissel led the defense with nine tackles. Mason Bump added five. Cole Dean recorded a pair of sacks while Dylan Pohl and Jayden Snyder both had one. For Avon, Richard Brice connected with Michael Rowland for a pair of touchdowns.

Maddox Timothy scored two touchdowns as York/Pavilion held off a late Clyde-Savannah rally. The senior quarterback completed 10-of-15 passes for 134 yards. Along with his 70 rushing yards, Kadin Peete hustled for a 75-yard return touchdown and added six tackles on defense. Jacob Pangrazio transitioned to wide receiver and hauled in six catches for 82 yards and a two-point conversion. Brennan Royce captained the defense with nine assisted tackles, three solo tackles and a forced fumble. Along with his five tackles, sophomore linebacker Liam Ezard posted a defended pass and 40-yard pick-six. Tyler Brady added 11 tackles and recovered a fumble. Carl Szczech blocked an extra point attempt along with his eight tackles.
Quote from York/Pavilion head coach Kurt Schneider: “This was a really exciting team win tonight and a great way for us to start the season. We had some great contributions from so many guys tonight. I’m really proud with how we handled some adversity and controlled our “controllables.” Kadin Peete had a very strong game in all three phases, including 70 yards on the ground and the big touchdown return. Maddox Timothy controlled the offense well and made some big plays running and throwing the ball. I’m really proud of Jake Pangrazio, who moved out to wide receiver for us and really had a great game. Some of our young guys really made some great plays led by Liam Ezard, who had the big pick-six and a couple of other big plays for us. We’re obviously happy, but are back to the grind on Monday and getting ready for a very good Avon squad next week.”

David Brumsted, Anthony Leach and Malachi Smith all produced a touchdown as Caledonia-Mumford/Byron-Bergen won its season opener. Leach and Smith both scored via the run while Brumsted secured the victory with a fourth-quarter, 50-yard pick-six. Leach manufactured the longest touchdown amongst the trio with a 66-yard dash 20 seconds into the contest. The junior running back commanded the ground game with 105 yards on eight carries. Smith’s score was a seven-yard sprint in the second quarter. Brumsted led the defensive shutout with eight tackles. Sophomore linebacker James Starowitz followed up with seven, including a pair of solo tackles.
