The Rochester Red Wings lost their third straight on Saturday, falling to the Indianapolis Indians 5-3 as they left the bases loaded in the ninth as a late-inning rally came up short.
The Red Wings had opportunities throughout the game, but weren’t able to bring a run home until the eighth, when they were already trailing 5-0. They had at least one runner in scoring position in each of the first four innings and loaded the bases in the sixth, only to come up short in all of those frames. Rochester finally scored in the top of the eighth when John Nogowski crossed home after Taylor Gushue hit into bases-loaded force-out at second.

The real rally came in the ninth, when a furious one-out rally saw five straight Red Wings reach base. Two runs scored: one on a Nogowski single, and then another when Jake Alu hit into a fielder’s choice play that ended with an error. However, Indianapolis relief pitcher Eric Hanhold buckled down and struck out the next two Red Wings batter to end the game.
Red Wings pitching was plagued at the plate by right fielder Jack Suwinski, who provided the Indians with two key doubles: a two-run knock in third and a one-run two-bagger in the sixth.
Andrew Stevenson extended his hitting streak to nine games, going 2-5 with a run scored. He also notched his 30th stolen base of the year. Jake Alu went 2-4 with a double, walk, and RBI.
On the injury front, Wings designated hitter Tres Barrera left the game after getting hit by a pitch in the fourth inning. Additional details on his injury are not yet available.
The loss moves the Red Wings to 54-68 on the season. Since June 9, they have gone 19-47, the worst record in the International League in that span.
Rochester will try to finish the series on Sunday with a win. Daniel Ponce de Leon is scheduled to start the 1:35 game.
