The Rochester Red Wings were soundly defeated in Indianapolis on Friday as they lost their second straight game, 9-1.
Red Wings pitchers struggled throughout the night, allowing 11 hits, five walks, and giving up a run in five of the eight innings that the Indians came to bat. Rochester hitters fared little better, notching five hits and missing opportunities to drive in runners from scoring position in four different innings.

The lone Rochester run came in the fifth, when John Nogowski doubled home Donovan Casey with one out. Pitching-wise, the top performer for the Red Wings was likely Luis Avilan, who pitched the fifth and sixth inning, striking out three while allowing one hit and no earned runs.
Indianapolis’ scoring started with their second hitter of the game, Hoy Park, who hit a solo shot to right-center with one out. The Indians scored twice in the second, and once more in the third, and the Red Wings never got the game any closer than the 4-1 score after Nogowski’s double.
The loss puts the Wings down 3-1 in the series, meaning the Red Wings have still not won a series in Indianapolis since 2005, when they took a 3-1 four-game set. They can still tie the series if they win both games over the weekend.
The Red Wings will face Indianapolis again on Saturday night, with Mason Thompson scheduled to take the mound.
