The Rochester Red Wings lost a third straight to the Worcester Red Sox as they fell 9-3 Friday night.
Worcester has scored nine runs against the Wings in each of the last two games in the series.
John Nogowski opened the scoring in the ballgame in the first frame with a base hit for his eighth RBI as a Red Wing.
Connor Wong took the lead for Worcester with a two-run blast in the second inning. Franchy Cordero added four more runs to the Red Sox lead with a grand slam in the fourth inning to put his team ahead by five.
Nogowski recorded his second RBI of the game for the Wings in the seventh inning to pull Rochester within four runs. Josh Palacios scored later on in the inning thanks to a wild pitch. Rochester trailed three after the passed ball.
Abraham Almonte hit his 18th home run of the season to right field to put Worcester in front by four again. Codero recorded another RBI with a base hit that made the game 8-3. Almonte drove in Nick Sograd for the final Red Sox run of the night.
Nogowski continued his on-base streak with his two-hit performance to 11 games. The Tallahassee native has a .441 on-base percentage in the 14 games during his Red Wing tenure since being transferred from Double-A Harrisburg on August 2.
Franklyn Kilome got the start for Rochester. The right-hander came into the game coming off a dominant five-inning no-hit performance against the Norfolk Tides on August 12. Kilome struggled in Saturday’s start going three and two-thirds innings giving up six runs on five hits and four walks. The Rochester starter did fan eight Red Sox in his start.
Rochester will look to get their second win of the series as they continue the series against Worcester Saturday at 4:05.
