A 59-minute rain delay in the fifth inning seemed to be the turning point as Rochester fell 2-1 to the Worcester Red Sox, Wednesday afternoon.
Before the rain delay, Rochester was leading 1-0 thanks to Jake Alu grounding into a fielder’s choice that drove Andrew Stevenson who was hit by a pitch to lead off the game. The Red Wings had recorded three hits before rain delayed the game in the top of the fifth.
Worcester tied the game in the seventh frame on a Tristan Casas walk with the bases loaded and two outs in the inning. Casas won the game for the Woo Soxs in the final frame with a base hit to secure the 2-1 victory for them Wednesday.
Erick Fedde got the ball for Rochester as he began his minor league rehab assignment. Fedde pitched four innings of shutout baseball striking out four. He gave up three hits and walked only one batter in his start Wednesday. Patrick Murphy came in relief for the 29-year-old and pitched two and two-thirds innings. Murphy fanned five Woo Sox batters while giving up only one run on three hits and two walks. Francisco Perez, Andres Machado, and Reed Garrett finished the game for Rochester out of the bullpen.
First basemen John Nogowski extended his on-base streak to nine games with a base hit in Wednesday’s contest. Nogowski is currently batting .409 in the 12 games he has appeared in with the Wings this season. He has recorded 18 hits during his tenure with Rochester.
Rochester is 4-2 since they ended its franchise-record losing streak. The Red Wings have driven in 34 runs during the six-game stretch.
Rochester will look to get back into the win column tomorrow as they continue its series with Worcester on Thursday at 6:45.

Tough loss. Wings actually lost this one in the 1st inning. They had a chance for a big inning when they had the WooSox starter on the ropes but only managed to score 1. It would come back to bite them when Sox tied the game late on a bases loaded walk and then a clutch 2 out walk off hit in the 9th.
Wasted a fairly decent pitching performance over the first 2/3 of the game. After that, not so much. The Bats were quiet.
With the Nats having an epic terrible season, the Wings will probably break their record of most players to suit up in a season…set last year when they endured another terrible year by the parent club.
