A four-run first and a three-run third gave the Bombers the lead needed to open the season with a victory. Cooper Bates hit a two-out triple in the top of the first to plate Andrew Runke for the initial run. Following back-to-back walks, the cleanup-man scored on a wild pitch. Three runners scored on the same pitch. Joey Baller doubled with one out in the third to plate Derrick Allen and Colin MacLean, and took advantage of a wild pitch to score one batter later.

Allen started on the mound and threw three shutout innings of one-hit ball. The sophomore from Greece Athena retired six of seven batters in the second and third while striking out the side in the third. Bates relieved for the fourth and fifth innings and struck out two batters allowing one hit and two runs. Zachary Williamson hit a sacrifice fly in a two-run sixth to plate Bates. Jack Salerno singled in the frame and scored on a passed ball. For the Gints, Nathan Hill went 3-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored. Hill doubled in the bottom of the fourth to plate Jayden Ryrko for the Gints first run, and then scored on Jacob Natale’s RBI-groundout in the frame. The senior from Webster Thomas brought home Ryrko by following up his leadoff single as part of a four-run sixth, and scored off a wild pitch in the frame.

The right-hander relieved over the final one-plus innings and fanned all four batters faced in order. Alex Dungey collected an RBI-double in the sixth and was brought home with Broderick Hatfield’s single. The Bombers will face the Gints on Thursday as part of a three-game series.

PALE HOSE (0-1) 0
A pitching trio of Gerald Wiepert III, Joseph Presutti and Benjamin Horvath combined for a four-hit shutout to open the season. Wiepert started and struck out three batters through three scoreless innings. The right-hander retired the final seven batters he faced following an error with one out in the first, and added the Bucs first hit of the season with a leadoff double in the fourth.

Presutti was credited with the win by relieving in the fourth and fifth frames and striking out two batters and allowing two hits. Horvath allowed two hits and earned five of the six final outs via strikeout, including fanning three straight batters with the bases loaded in the sixth. Evan Cuba went 1-for-3 with an RBI and broke a scoreless tie in the top of the fifth when he reached on an error and Valencio Almborg-Perez crossed home on the play. The shortstop singled with two out in the seventh to bring around Almborg-Perez for a second time. Ben Kazel also collected a hit in the win. Brady Prebalick had a double for the Pale Hose. Carson Clar, Drew Gropp and Preston Foryt added a single apiece in the loss. Liam Eshelman started and struck out seven over five innings of work. The right-hander allowed an unearned run on one walk and one hit. He retired seven straight batters from the end of the first through the third. The Bucs will play Pale Hose on Thursday as part of a three-game series.
