Rochester’s struggles continued Sunday evening as the Red Wings fell to the Columbus Clippers 3-2.
Columbus jumped out to a two-run lead in the bottom of the fourth. Brighton alum Ernie Clement drove in the game’s first run with one out in the inning. Trenton Brooks added on the second run of the inning with an RBI triple.
In the bottom of the following inning, the game was halted for a 28-minute rain delay. The delay seemed to help Rochester regroup because the Wings came back to tie the ballgame. John Nogowski continued to play well against Columbus with an RBI double to pull the Wings within one run in the top of the seventh. The RBI was his fourth of the series for the Red Wings. Andrew Stevenson hit his eighth home run of the season to tie the ballgame for Rochester the following inning.
However, Columbus took the lead right back. Clement recorded his second RBI of the game for Columbus to give them the one-run lead. They were able to hang on and hand Rochester its seventeenth straight loss.
Cade Cavalli got the start for Rochester and went five innings. The right-hander gave up two runs on six hits and three walks during his start. He struck out four Clippers on Sunday. Fransisco Perez came into relief out of the bullpen and pitched an inning. Tyler Clippard did the same as well. Clippard recorded two punchouts in his relief outing. Connor Sadzeck and Alberto Baldonado finished up the final inning for Rochester.
The Wings will look to end its losing skid as they head back home to Frontier Field to start a series against the Norfolk Tides. The first game of the series is Tuesday at 7:05.

Need to indicate the number of consecutive losses.

Wings have been swept 2 series in a row…and its practically real difficult to lose 6 straight games to one team…let alone have it happen twice in a row. 17 straight losses is just too much to even deal with.
No matter what they do, who pitches, who hits…they always come up short. The team isn’t very good right now, especially the pitching, but they also aren’t THAT bad that they can’t snatch a win now and then.
Norfolk comes in this week and they have some super good talent on the cusp of being called up to Baltimore. there is an excitement in that organization that the Wings would love to have. And they did have it for 2 months. And then like Brigadoon…it vanished into thin air.
Most baseball wags are unashamedly calling the Nationals the worst team in baseball and not getting better. The Wings obviously will only be playing out the string, trying to get maybe a little closer to .500. And maybe auditioning a player or two to see if they can play in AAA.
I’d like to see the Wings get at least a split of this series. The weather will be great and the fans have returned to Frontier. A few wins would be nice. And the streak should end tomorrow….please.
