Rochester’s historic losing streak continued Friday evening as the Red Wings fell to the Columbus Clippers, 8-5.
Columbus used a five-run third inning that put them in front of the Wings 6-1. The Clippers collected three hits to record the five runs. A base hit and two extra-base hits including a long ball helped Columbus get out to a commanding lead.
Rochester eventually cut the deficit to one. John Nogowski got the scoring started off with an RBI double in the fourth inning. In the following inning, Andrew Stevenson drove in Jake Alu for his 42nd RBI of the season. In the sixth inning, John Nogowski picked up his second and third RBI of the game with a two-run home run to bring the Wings within one.
Columbus pulled away from Rochester in the eighth scoring two more runs to take a three-run lead. Will Brennan drove in both runs with a two-RBI single in the bottom half of the inning.
Rochester used six pitchers in Friday’s contest. Jefry Rodriguez and Carson Teel combined for half of the innings with both pitching two innings. The two combined for four strikeouts. Fransisco Perez, Connor Sadzeck, Reed Garrett, and Tyler Clippard pitched the other half with each pitcher getting an inning of work. The four pitchers combined for four strikeouts for Rochester.
New acquired C.J. Abrams made his Rochester Red Wings debut Friday evening. He picked up his first RBI as a Wing in the top of the third inning to score Cole Freeman and tie the game. Abrams was acquired in the Juan Soto trade during the MLB trade deadline on August 2nd.
Rochester will look to get back in the win column as they continue its series with Columbus on Saturday at 5:05.
