The Rochester Red Wings’ losing streak continued Saturday evening when they were defeated 3-1 by the Columbus Clippers.
Rochester got on the board first in the opening frame of the ball game. Jake Noll continued to have a strong series by hitting a line drive single to score new Red Wing C.J. Abrams. The line drive RBI was Noll’s third RBI in the first five games of the series.
Bo Naylor tied the game in the bottom half of the inning with a solo home run. Columbus took the lead in the third inning when David Fry reached base via a fielding error that scored Gabriel Arias. Oscar Mercado added an insurance run for the Clippers in the sixth inning with the second long ball of the game. The solo home run sealed the game for Columbus.
Both Rochester and Columbus recorded six hits in Saturday’s contest. During its 16-game losing streak, the Red Wings have tied or outhit their opponents in half of their losses.
Franklyn Kilome took the mound for Rochester on Saturday. He threw five and two-thirds of three-run baseball while giving up six base knocks and walked two. Kilome fanned four Clippers during his start. Alberto Baldonado came in relief for Kilome to finish the sixth inning and pitch the seventh inning as well. He recorded one punchout in his relief outing. Matt Cronin took the ball for the final inning for Rochester. He let up one walk.
With the loss, the 16th straight, Rochester has dropped to ten games below .500 and currently sits 12 back of first place in the IL East Division. They have been outscored 106-60 during the losing slide.
Rochester will look to end the series on a high note as they take on Columbus in the series finale against Columbus at 4:05.
