Rochester’s losing streak continued as the Red Wings shut out against the Columbus Clippers Tuesday evening.
The Clippers won 2-0 after scoring both of their runs in the first inning of the ballgame.
Alex Call was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the bottom of the first inning to open the scoring for Columbus. Trenton Brooks followed with a sacrifice fly to give the Clippers their second and final run of the game.
Cade Cavalli got the start for Rochester. The right-hander hadn’t given up an earned run in his last three starts for the Wings. Cavalli pitched four innings giving up two runs on five hits. He did strikeout four Clippers and walked one of them in his start. The bullpen kept Rochester in the game giving up no runs in the four innings pitched.
Francisco Perez pitched two innings where he set down all six batters he faced. He fanned four batters in his relief outing on Tuesday. Will Harris pitched the third straight one, two three inning for the Wings. He got one strikeout in his inning of work. Matt Cronin pitched another one, two, three inning in the eighth for Rochester to keep it a two-run ball game.
Rochester’s offense recorded four hits on Tuesday. Jake Alu, David Dahl, Riley Adams, and Adrian Sanchez got the hits for Rochester. Dahl and Adams both recorded extra-base hits for the Wings.
The Red Wings’ woes have seen them slip to eight games back of first place in the IL East Division.
Rochester has lost 12 straight games – the longest skid of the season.
The Red Wings will look to get back into the win column and end their losing streak against Columbus on Wednesday at 7:05.

I just have one question for the panel: why can’t Cavalli go deeper into games now that we are in August? He has pitched more than 5 innings only 3 times all season. In his last 7 starts he has gone past the 5th only once.
Are the Nats pampering him? What has happened to the concept of ‘starting pitcher’?
