BUFFALO, N.Y. — Michael Salina hurled six-plus innings, and Jaden Madrid connected on a two-out hit to bring in the game-winning run as Greece Post 468 advanced to the American Legion New York State semis with a 2-1 victory over Brounshidle Post 205, 2-1.
Salina struck out seven and walked three over 6.2 innings. The right-hander, who recently committed to continue his career at George Mason University, retired six of seven batters from the start of the third to the end of the fourth and five of six after surrendering a leadoff home run in the sixth.
Salina left the game after he reached his mandatory pitch limit with two outs in the seventh inning.
Madrid finished 2-for-3 with a walk. The middle infielder doubled and brought home Tyler Stack with the go-ahead run in the sixth inning. Stack reached on a two-out walk and scored from first on the play.
Zach Allen went 2-for-2 with a walk in the game. His solo shot in the fifth gave Greece a 1-0 edge. Allen contributed on the mound as he retired the only batter he faced to register a save.
Tanner DeGrazia doubled while Connor Sackett and Julien Mendoza added a single apiece in the win.
Greece will play Whitestone Post 1113 in Tuesday’s semi-final. A 10 a.m. first pitch is scheduled at Saugerties.
Brounshidle’s Nick Schultz was 2-for-3 including a lead off home run in the sixth to knot the game at one. Conner Walker started and allowed one run on five hits.
