Cade Cavalli dominated over seven shutout innings en route to a 4-0 Rochester Red Wings’ win over the Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs Wednesday evening.
Cavalli gave up two hits and struck out seven to improve to 4-3 on the season. The right-hander retired the first 17 batters he faced and did not allow a ball out of the infield until the sixth. A two-out double in the sixth from Chris Sharpe broke up Cavalli’s perfect game attempt. He threw 74 pitches – 54 for strikes.
Jake Noll and Joey Meneses led the Red Wings’ offense. Noll recorded two hits and three RBI. Meneses finished with four hits and an RBI.
Noll opened up the scoring for Rochester with his seventh home run of the year to put the Wings up one in the second inning. The following inning, Noll drove in Meneses and Riley Adams with his International League-leading 22nd double of the season. Meneses added another run to the Wing’s lead with an RBI single that scored Matt Lipka.
Behind Cavalli’s outstanding performance, Hunter Harvey and Alberto Baldonado shut the door for Rochester in the final two innings to seal the shutout win. Both pitchers recorded a strike out and gave up a hit.
Lehigh Valley recorded only five hits in Wednesday’s contest. Will Toffey led the Iron Pigs’ offense with two hits.
