Avery Bowens connected on a two-run home-run in the top of the sixth as the Blue Jays pulled away for their seventh straight win and first against the Ducks this season. Bowens homered on a 1-1 pitch for the eventual game-winning run. The Blue Jays capitalized on nine hits to score in five of seven innings, the most notable being a three-run second to take a 4-1 lead. With two men on, Danny Melendez reached on an error to bring in a run. Zachary Harnischfeger drove in Jarod Signorelli, and Melendez scored one out later on Gavin Moore’s sacrifice fly. Cooper Hassall added two more runs in the third with a single that drove home Henry Juan and Jim Marasco. Jack Zawacki collected an RBI and Moore added a run in the fourth for an 8-1 lead. Michael Contini (1-1) struck out three batters and allowed five hits over four innings to pick up his first win of the season. Marasco struck out one and allowed a hit over two scoreless innings of relief while Hassall worked the seventh for his second save of the season. Matthew Mady sparked a two-out rally with a two-run triple, and the Ducks went on to score six times to make it a one-run game in the fourth. Zachary Mock started the scoring with an RBI single. Jack Dockum capped the inning with an RBI-double to score Paul Sofinski to make it an 8-7 game. Tyler Cerame hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the seventh for the final margin.

Jacob Parker finished 3-for-5 including a two-out RBI single in the bottom of the seventh as the Monarchs rallied to pull even with the Cardinals. Trailing 10-9, Jacob Soricone and Bryce Tyndell reached on back-to-back, two-out walks to set up Parker. Soricone came around with his second run of the game. Carlos Fantauzzi plated Tyler Curtis and Sean Flannery with a one-out triple as the Cardinals scored four times in the top of the seventh to take their first lead of the game at 10-9. Curtis started the frame with a double. Flannery walked, and Fantauzzi delivered with his second hit of the game. DJ Stoianovich followed with an RBI double to tie the score. Stoianovich eventually crossed home on a fielder’s choice. Fantauzzi went 2-for-4 with three RBI in the game. Stoianovich has a hit in each of the past four games, and he matched teammate Tim McClare at the top of the ICBL with his ninth RBI of the season. Walker Wright drove in three runs including two with a triple in a three-run fifth inning. Flannery scored twice. Frank McCabe doubled and scored. Nick Crandall struck out eight over 3.1 innings of relief. The right-hander allowed three runs (all unearned) on two hits and one walk. Devin Cannon led the Monarchs with four RBI including a two-run single in the fourth to give the ‘Narchs a 7-3 lead. Brian Oddi, Jr. went 1-for-3 with two RBI. Nick Nealon doubled, scored a run and brought in two. Jourdan Plaisted singled, walked twice and scored twice.
The three-game series between the two teams will continue on July 5. The Monarchs hold 2-0-1 advantage in head-to-head matchups between the two teams.
