Victor Arroyo completed his high school career by leading an explosive East High offense to an RCAC Tournament title and the top seed in Section V Class A2. The senior shortstop was named the 2022 Player of the Year as announced by Rochester City Athletic Conference (RCAC) coaches. The honor was the second straight for the East senior.
Arroyo spearheaded an Eagles’ offense which averaged 9.9 runs per game by pacing the squad in runs scored (51), stolen bases (38), base knocks (32), walks (19), triples (six) and homers (five). The senior shortstop added a .485 batting average, .689 on-base percentage, 29 RBI and seven doubles in a team-high 66 plate appearances as well. On the field, Arroyo recorded an .838 fielding percentage with 19 putouts and 12 assists. Arroyo’s strong end to his career resulted in the Eagles amassing a 19-2 record, including a 13-0 mark in league play and their 11th RCAC Tournament title.
Teammates Michael Conrow, Emille Diaz, Pedro Garcia, Kyle Markham and Miguel Matos joined Arroyo on the All-League team. Conrow drove in a team-high 35 runs while posting a .500 batting average (29 hits in 58 at-bats), .642 on-base percentage, 34 runs scored, nine swiped bags, six doubles and three triples. The senior utilityman was steady on the mound as well with a 4-0 record, 2.21 earned run average and 43 strikeouts in 25 1/3 innings. Matos paced the pitching rotation in innings (34 2/3) and strikeouts (58) while finishing with five victories, second-most behind Garcia. At the dish, the sophomore infielder tied the team-high with eight doubles and compiled a .455 batting average (25 hits in 55 at-bats), .641 on-base percentage, 39 runs scored, 26 RBI, 17 stolen bases, four homers and three triples.

Abel Austin, Dale Janezic and Justin Rodriguez were named to the All-League First Team for School Of The Arts. Rodriguez was the Silverhawks’ slugger as he ignited the offense with a team-high .449 batting average (22 hits in 49 at-bats), .714 slugging percentage, five doubles and two home runs, including a grand slam. Rodriguez legged out one of the four triples the team collected this season as well. The senior infielder added 24 strikeouts in 21 1/3 innings on the bump. Austin swiped 20 bags and scored 19 runs while leading the Silverhawks with 68 plate appearances. Austin was the only other player besides Rodriguez to clear the fences as well. The senior infielder contributed on the mound with 52 strikeouts in 40 innings and two saves in 10 appearances. Janezic was the team ace as he led the pitching staff with a 4-1 record and 3.53 earned run average in eight appearances. Janezic accumulated 61 strikeouts in 33 2/3 innings as well. The junior pitcher contributed at the dish with a .358 batting average (19 hits in 53 at-bats), .435 on-base percentage, .433 slugging percentage, 15 stolen bases, 15 runs scored, 11 RBI and four doubles.
Melqui Montalvo and Callan Reddington earned All-League First Team honors for Franklin. Reddington led the Quakers with a .500 batting average (23 hits in 46 at-bats), 24 runs scored and 23 stolen bases. Reddington paced the pitching staff with a 0.25 earned run average (one earned run in 28 1/3 innings) over eight appearances as well. Montalvo guided the rotation with a 3-2 record, 2.25 earned run average and 69 strikeouts in 37 1/3 innings over eight appearances. Montalvo recorded a .417 batting average (20 hits in 48 at-bats), .517 on-base percentage, .687 slugging percentage, a team-high-tying 24 runs scored (Reddington), nine RBI, a team-high six doubles, two triples and a grand slam. Max LaMora (Wilson Magnet) rounded out the RCAC All-League First Team.
