Rochester fell in the series finale to host Scranton Wilkes/Barre Railriders 5-4 Sunday afternoon.
Alcides Escobar opened the Red Wing’s offense with an RBI sacrifice fly that scored Cole Freeman in the first inning. Freeman singled and stole second. He advanced to third on a throwing error.
The Railriders exploded for four runs in the bottom of the first inning. Oswald Peraza tied the game with a solo home run. Derek Dietrich doubled to score Jake Bauers who singled and got into scoring position after Greg Bird doubled. Tim Locastro hit a double himself that scored Dietrich and Bird to make it 4-1 Railriders.
Rochester came back to tie the game in the third inning. Freeman and Escobar recorded hits to start the inning. Joey Meneses drove in Freeman to cut the lead to two. Jake Noll hit a sacrifice fly to score Escobar to make it 4-3. Josh Palacios singled and stole a base to get into scoring position. Ildemaro Vargas scored Palacios on a double to tie the game at four.
Locastro regained the lead for the Railriders in the eighth inning with a solo home run.
The Red Wings still sit a half-game behind the Buffalo Bisons in the Il East Division after both teams lost on Sunday.
The Red Wings lost both of their series during the recent road trip going a combined 2-10 against Saint Paul and Scranton.
Rochester will look to get something going as they return home to face the Syracuse Mets on Tuesday at 7:05.
