Red Wings blanked by Railriders

Rochester’s fell to host Scranton Wilkes/Barre, 3-0 Saturday evening.

The Railriders opened up the scoring in the fourth inning. Jake Bauers drove in Tim Locastro with an RBI single. Locastro doubled the at-bat before to get into scoring position for Scranton. The Railriders added two runs to their lead in the eighth inning on two wild pitches thrown by Alberto Baldonado.

Ronald Guzman doubled to start the inning. He then stole third for his first stolen base of the season. Baldonado threw his first wild pitch of the inning that scored Guzman. Estevan Florial singled after the wild pitch and then stole second for his 22nd stolen base this season. Locastro grounded out to move Florial to third. Florial scored on Baldonado’s second wild pitch of the inning to put the Railriders up 3-0.

Besides Baldonado’s two wild pitches in the eighth inning, the Red Wings received solid pitching from the other three pitchers. Carson Teel recorded seven strikeouts and gave up one in four innings of work. Matt Brill and Luis Avilan both recorded two strikeouts and gave up no runs in their one-inning relief outings. Baldonado gave his runs in two innings of work. He recorded two strikeouts in relief.

Matt Krook blanked the Red Wings for seven straight innings on Saturday. He recorded five strikeouts and one walk and gave up five hits in his start for the Railriders. Jimmy Cordero and Greg Weissert completed the shutout for the Railriders.

The Red Wings fell into second place in the IL East Division with the loss on Saturday. They trail the Buffalo Bisons by a half-game after Buffalo picked up a win against division for the Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs.

Rochester will look for a series split against Scranton Wilkes/Barre on Sunday at 1:05.
