Rochester lost its fifth straight game to the St. Paul Saints in an 11-7 high-scoring affair on Saturday evening.
Tim Beckham led the Saints with four hits in Saturday’s contest. He also drove in two of St. Paul’s eleven runs.
The game was back and forth until the Saints pulled away with a three-run eighth inning. After Beckham singled to lead off the eighth, Jermaine Palacios and Michael Helman hit back-to-back doubles to extend St. Paul’s lead to 10-7. Cole Sturgeon followed that by hitting his second triple of the season to put the Saints by four runs. The Saints have recorded double-digit runs against the Red Wings in three of the five games in the series.
Jose Palacios continued his strong series for the Red Wings by homering in the third for his third round-tripper in as many games. Palacios also recorded his tenth stolen base of the season. Jake Noll accounted for a fifth of Rochester’s 15 hits. Richard Urena drove in three of the Red Wing’s seven runs on two hits.
Rochester’s pitching struggled again against St. Paul as starter Cole Henry pitched three innings and gave up four earned runs on six hits and one walk. Sam Clay and Cory Abbott gave up two runs a piece in their relief outings. Clay pitched only one inning and Abbott pitched two and two-thirds of an inning. Alberto Baldonado in just one inning of work gave up three runs on four hits.
The Red Wing’s struggles against St. Paul have led them to only have a one-game lead on second-place Lehigh Valley for first place in the IL East division. The Iron Pigs have been hot of late with an 8-2 record in their last 10 games and winning back-to-back games.
The Red Wings will look to avoid a series sweep when they finish up the series Sunday at 3:07 in St. Paul.
