Palmyra-Macedon and Batavia to battle in B1 title game

Monroe County Division IV meets Finger Lakes East with the Section V Baseball Class B1 championship on the line. Batavia will face Palmyra-Macedon on Tuesday evening. Here’s the breakdown:

CLASS B1
No. 6 BATAVIA BLUE DEVILS (14-8/Monroe County Division IV)
vs.
No. 1 PALMYRA-MACEDON RED RAIDERS (21-0/Finger Lakes East)
5:00 PM Tuesday, Livonia High School

How they arrived here: Batavia earned victories over No. 3 Geneva (16-2) in the quarterfinals, and No. 2 Hornell (5-4) in the semifinals, to send them to the Class B1 sectional finals as a sixth seed. Top-seeded Palmyra-Macedon knocked off No. 8 Newark (20-7) in the quarterfinals, and No. 4 Aquinas (13-1) in the semifinals, to earn a spot in the Class B1 sectional title game.

Tempo and Trends: Batavia scores 6.2 runs per game, and allows 4.5 runs to opponents. The Blue Devils  have won five of their last six games, their one loss being by one run to Brockport. In that stretch, they have outscored their opponents by an average of 4.4 runs per game. Palmyra-Macedon scores 10.8 runs per game, and allows 1 run. The Red Raiders have shut out opponents on 12 occasions this season.

What’s at stake: A spot in the NYS Class B Regional qualifier against the Class B2 champion (Haverling or Le Roy).

History 101: This is Batavia’s third time in the last five years to appear in final. In 2019 under then-head coach Rick Saunders, the Blue Devils defeated Geneva in the Class B1 final, and lost in 2018 to Wayne in the Class A2 finals. Palmyra-Macedon is appearing in its second consecutive title game having defeated Livonia in the 2021 Class B1 championship.
