Facing a two-strike count, Austin D’Ettore worked a full-count walk to start the seventh-inning comeback. Peter Dellafave followed with an RBI double to cut the deficit to two. Aaron Henry walked to put the tying run on base. With runners going on contact, Vincent Lucyszyn’s seeing-eye single bounced into centerfield. Shaun Cannon dominated with 18 strikeouts in a no-hitter for Spencerport. The sophomore pitcher’s only baserunners allowed were via three walks and a catcher’s interference. Otherwise, Cannon began his outing by striking out the first eight batters he faced. After giving up a leadoff walk in the sixth inning, the sophomore pitcher fanned five of the last seven hitters he faced to secure the no-no. Cannon’s other three outs came on the ground. The Rangers got off to a quick start with five runs in the opening frame on run-scoring extra-base hits by Cannon, Anthony DiMarco, Frank Grad, Cian O’Keefe and Scott Zyra. Spencerport advances to the sectional quarterfinals and will take on No. 3 seed Irondequoit, Wednesday afternoon, after a 30-0 win.
No. 10 GREECE ODYSSEY/OLYMPIA (4-17) 1
No. 7 BRIGHTON (6-15) 5
Matthew Howe tossed five scoreless innings on 68 pitches to guide Brighton past the first round of sectionals. Despite allowing a baserunner in every frame, the senior pitcher limited the damage to two walks and a pair of singles. Of his 15 outs, Howe recorded six outs on the ground, five on strikes and four in the air. Overall, the senior pitcher threw 67.6 percent of his offerings for strikes. Carter Sloan paced the offense with an RBI single and sacrifice fly. Andrew Kotrides reached on a fielder’s choice, singled and scored two runs. Jackson Heider and AJ Marcella both posted a pair of base knocks and crossed the plate once. For Greece Odyssey/Olympia, Joshua Tantalo accounted for the team’s lone run with an RBI single in the sixth inning. Nolan Krautwurst allowed one earned run in a complete game effort. Brighton advances to the sectional quarterfinals and will take on No. 2 seed Webster Schroeder, Wednesday afternoon.

Five different players (Aleksandar Englert, Nathaniel Hall, Caleb Mitchell, Ryan Nettnin and Nicholas Teresi) all produced multi-hit efforts for Greece Athena. Englert led with four hits. Mitchell and Nettnin both followed up with three base knocks. Hall and Teresi both had two. Jaden Madrid launched a leadoff home run. Nettnin and Evan Smith combined to pitch a shutout. Greece Athena advances to the sectional quarterfinals and will take on No. 3 seed Brockport, Wednesday afternoon, after a 27-0 victory. The Trojans have now two of their last four games.

Honeoye Falls-Lima advances to the sectional quarterfinals and will take on No. 2 seed Pittsford Mendon, Wednesday afternoon, after a 32-0 win. The Cougars snapped a five-game skid with the victory.

Sean Nellis had one of the team’s two hits plus an RBI as Wayne rallied for a walk-off victory in the first round of sectionals. Despite not recording a hit, Jared Dier drove in a run as well. Ryan Becker doubled, walked twice and scored a run. Tyler Mudge, Michael Prentice and PJ Treasure all crossed the plate once. Brandon Benkovics struck out 13 of the 29 batters he faced in six innings of two-hit ball. Wayne advances to the sectional quarterfinals and will take on top-seeded East High, Wednesday afternoon.

Zach Herd struck out three and allowed seven hits and three walks over six and a third innings as Newark advanced to meet top-seeded Palmyra-Macedon in the sectional quarterfinals, Wednesday afternoon. Preston Berrios came on in relief with one out in the top of the seventh and faced three batters to earn the save. Berrios finished 3-for-3 at the plate, including a go-ahead RBI triple in the fourth inning to put the Reds up to stay. Jacob Rodriguez and Max Youngman added two RBI apiece.

Mason McClurg drove in a team-high three runs, doubled among his two hits, swiped a pair of bags and crossed the plate once. Jake Cornell went 2-of-4 with a double, two RBI, one stolen base and a run scored. Lukas Cornell’s two base knocks resulted in three stolen bases and a trio of runs scored. Patrick Klump fanned seven batters in a complete game shutout and collected a hit at the dish. Warsaw advances to the sectional quarterfinals and will take on No. 3 seed Kendall.

Ben Friedberg and Alex Sassaman both contributed with an RBI single. Friedberg and Salvatore Timpani both accumulated three base knocks. For Alfred-Almond, Kanye Cumberbatch and Nolan Tormey both led with two hits. Harley-Allendale-Columbia advances to the sectional quarterfinals and will take on No. 4 seed Red Jacket.
