Phil Ferranti connected on three home runs including back-to-back round-trippers in a nine-run fourth as Mercyhurst University, 14-2 in PSAC action on Saturday.
Ferranti hit a two-run shot in the second to tie the game at two. The senior delivered another two-run job early in the fourth before his solo home run helped pace Mercyhurst to a 13-2 lead.
The former Webster Schroeder and Monroe CC star finished 3-for-3 in the game with five RBI.
Former Rush-Henrietta and Monroe CC standout Cas Sobaszek singled and scored in the win.
Mercyhurst (27-15/14-9) enters the final weekend of the regular season in third place of the PSAC West with four games remaining against Slippery Rock University.
At MCC, Ferranti garnered Third Team NJCAA All-American honors as a freshman and set a program record with 40 career doubles. He was part of two NJCAA World Series teams and earned a spot on MCC’s All-Decade Team.
He hit fifth in a Webster Schroder lineup that advanced to the 2016 NYSPHSAA Class AA finals. The Warriors lost to a Shenendehowa team that had current Atlanta Brave Ian Anderson and his brother Ben Anderson (Texas Ranger farmhand) along with Kevin Huerter of the NBA’s Atlanta Hawks. Ferranti earned First-Team All-State his senior year hitting .600 with 43 RBI and 22 runs scored for a Warriors squad which peaked at No. 1 in the state rankings.
