ITHACA, N.Y. — Dylan Wanat (Buffalo, N.Y./Williamsville North) continued his torrid hitting streak, and the Monroe Community College baseball team extended its winning streak to eight games with a doubleheader sweep of host Ithaca College JV (15-5/21-1) on Monday.
Wanat finished 5-for-7 in the twin bill with six runs scored and three RBI. The Tribunes rightfielder drove in a pair of runs and scored three times in the opener going 3-for-4 when Monroe scored six runs in the top of the first and never trailed.
Wanat capped the day going 2-for-3 with two walks, three runs scored and an RBI. The nightcap was the fifth straight multi-hit performance for Wanat who is 12-for-17 (.706) during that stretch with 10 runs scored and six RBI.
Bill Quinn (Elma, N.Y./Iroquois) struck out 11 and walked three to pick up the Game 1 win. The right-hander allowed five runs (three earned) on six hits over six innings.
Ben Beauchamp (Rochester, N.Y./McQuaid Jesuit) went 3-for-4 with three RBI and two runs scored in the win. The Tribune centerfielder added a hit, three RBI and three runs scored in the Game 2 win. Beauchamp has reached base safely in 13 straight games.
Justin Herrera (Stratford, CT/Bunnell) singled, walked, drove in two and scored two runs. Patrick May (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker) singled and scored three runs. Trevor Gineau (Henrietta, N.Y./Rush-Henrietta) walked twice, drove in a run and scored another.
Avery Bowens (Rochester, N.Y./Eastridge) walked, scored once and drove in a run. Max Schmarder (Buffalo, N.Y./Olmstead) walked and scored two runs.
Joe Wintermute (Irondequoit, N.Y./Irondequoit) went 2-for-3 with a double, five RBI and a run scored in the Game 2 win. Gineau was 3-for-3 with a walk, two RBI and two runs scored. Beauchamp doubled and added three RBI and three runs scored in the win. Schmarder worked three walks and crossed home four times. May homered and scored two runs.
Braden Pumputis (Webster, N.Y./Webster Schroeder) struck out two over 1.2 scoreless innings of relief. The freshman left-hander has tossed 4.2 consecutive scoreless innings.
Herrera went 2-for-3 with three runs scored and an RBI. Ryan Stewart (Auburn, N.Y./Auburn) finished with two hits, an RBI and a run scored. Alex Touloupus (Webster, N.Y./Webster Schroeder) walked and scored. Connor Kiefer (Buffalo, N.Y./City Honors) walked twice and scored.
The Tribunes have 19 wins, 9 losses and 1 tie on the season.
