CHICAGO, Ill. – Former Niagara baseball pitcher Matt Brash made his MLB debut on Tuesday, starting on the mound for the Seattle Mariners against the Chicago White Sox.
Brash is the first former Niagara student-athlete since Sean Bentivoglio (New York Islanders) in 2009 to play in a game with one of the Big Four leagues (MLB, NHL, NFL, NBA).
Brash (0-1) tossed 5.1 innings, striking out six and allowing two earned runs on four hits. He walked just one batter.
Brash is the sixth pitcher in Mariners history to record six or more strikeouts in their MLB debut and is the first since Ken Cloude on Aug. 9, 1997.
Brash, who is the fifth starter in Seattle’s rotation, is expected to start again on Sunday, April 17 versus the Houston Astros at 4:10 p.m. Eastern. It will be his first start at T-Mobile Park.
