Upstate Baseball League Wednesday Wrap: Loyal caps Victor comeback; Pangrazio hurls York past Pavilion

BASEBALL

FAIRPORT (2-1) 6
VICTOR (2-1) 7
After trailing 5-0 entering the bottom of the second inning, Victor rallied to a gritty win behind good offense and strong pitching. The Blue Devils scored six runs over the next three innings to seize the lead before Cooper Loyal delivered a go-ahead RBI single with the game tied at six in the bottom of the sixth that scored Matt Brady that eventually gave them the win. Loyal finished with two hits including the go-ahead RBI single, and Weston Elkovitch and Zach Prior each doubled. Carter Fink tallied two RBI and finished with one hit. Conner Cronin picked up the win for Victor, throwing for three innings and striking out four batters on only one run allowed. James and Will Stanek each finished with two hits for Fairport.

SPENCERPORT 1
GREECE ATHENA (3-0) 5
Jaden Madrid struck out four and allowed an unearned run on four hits and two walks to register the win. The junior right-hander struck out four batters and retired six of the first seven he faced. He singled to lead the bottom of the first and later scored on an Aleks Englert sacrifice fly. Sammy Saucke also reached on a base hit in the first and came home on a Connor Osier double to give the Trojans a lead they did not surrender. Madrid finished 2-for-4 at the plate with two runs scored and an RBI. Saucke later doubled and also had a 2-for-4 effort. Osier was 2-for-4 as well. On the mound, the sophomore right-hander fanned two over 1.2 scoreless innings of relief. Riley Catena walked twice and scored a run. Matt Tallini worked a base on balls and also crossed home. Frank Grad singled and scored the lone Spencerport run. Scott Zyra reached base twice for the Rangers with a single and a walk. Lorenzo Tantalo doubled while Kyle Milburn and Brady John had a single apiece.

BRIGHTON 7
CHURCHVILLE-CHILI (3-0) 12
Zachary Miner started on the bump for Churchville-Chili, and also tallied a team-high three hits paired with two RBI and a stolen base. Miner picked up the win for his efforts on the mound, finishing with five strike outs in four innings of action. Braedon Reina was able to produce two hits, and Evan Putney was able to as well. Michael Sardou was able to score two runners and finished with one hit. Cooper Romich and Justin Meister also each got a hit. Dom Morsch picked up the save in relief work, throwing a hitless two innings with four strikeouts. Marcella totaled three hits for Brighton. Benjamin Comeau was able to produce five RBIs with two hits. Bryce Madison, Nickolas Martinez, Matthew Howe, and Ellis Einbinder each had a hit for the Bruins. Benjamin Kazel produced an RBI. Howe had the start for Brighton and produced four strikeouts in three innings of work.

WEBSTER THOMAS 8
GATES CHILI 4
Nate Zicari didn’t want to come out of the game. One out shy of throwing six complete innings, the senior southpaw motioned to the first base dugout asking to face another batter. Head coach Kevin Neenan hesitated for a brief moment before collecting his thoughts and making his way to the mound. Zicari struck out 10 batters over 5.2 innings and that was enough for Webster Thomas to defeat Gates-Chili, 8-4.

“Nate did a great job today,” Neenan said. “He got ahead of hitters. He was able to throw his fastball and his curveball was pretty good too.” READ MORE.

HONEOYE FALLS-LIMA 11
Andrew Wilson, Kaeden Laureano and Jacob Falvey paced the Brockport offense, with each of them finished with three hits apiece and the three of them combined for seven RBI. David D’Ambrosia, Brayden Scaccia and Cooper Hassall all had two hits with two RBI each. Zach Richards and Jacob Cole also finished with a pair of hits each. Bryce Tyndell and Gavin Leverenz each picked up a hit, with Tyndell also knocking a runner home. Falvey picked up the win on the mound, while Wilson and Leverenz pitched in relief work. Robert Brown led HFL with three RBI and two hits. Xavier Carbonel and Aidan Neenan both brought two runners home and had a hit. Ethan Ford and Nathan Weber both had one hit, and one RBI. Ford pitched three innings in a starting role and struck out three batters.

WEBSTER SCHROEDER (2-1) 1
PENFIELD (1-1) 2 (eight innings)
Austin Dillenbeck delivered the walk-off hit to lift Penfield. Tommy DiFranco started and struck out six and gave up one hit without allowing an earned run over seven innings of work. Aiden Bellow picked up the win in relief. Mike Salina started for Schroeder, struck out eight and allowed one hit over seven innings.

AQUINAS (0-2) 7
BATAVIA (3-1) 10
Sawyer Siverling did it in both ways, knocking in a team-high two RBI in addition to striking out three hitters in a scoreless three-inning relief effort to help Batavia come from behind to secure the win. Trailing 7-2 entering in the bottom of the third, the Blue Devils scored eight runs in the next three innings to earn the comeback victory. Cole Grazioplene led Batavia with two hits and scored two runs on the bases. Jesse Reinhart, Siverling, Aidan Anderson, Alex Johnson, and Vin Grazioplene also had one hit apiece. Micki Fortes had an RBI. Trevor Cole earned the start for Batavia and struck out five batters in three innings. For Aquinas, Jake Wiepert tallied three hits that resulted in four RBI. CJ Mangone, Tre’ Walker, Lucas Leone, Robert McCullough, Will Scanlon, and Sean Riley finished with one hit apiece. CJ Mangone got the start for Aquinas and struck out four batters in 2 2/3 innings.

EAST 10
A combined no-hitter from Michael Conrow, Dion Mather, and JJ Smith helped pave the way for the East victory. The trio combined to throw 10 strikeouts during the course of the game. Conrow and Emille Diaz both finished their days at the plate with three hits, and combined for seven RBI. Multiple players had a pair of hits for East, including Tomas Hernandez, Luis Rivera, Pedro Garcia, Mather, and Victor Arroyo. Smith and Miguel Matos finished with one hit apiece.

LEADERSHIP 3
SCHOOL OF THE ARTS (2-0) 13
Paul Stevens led School of the Arts with three hits and four RBI including a three-run triple. Abel Austin, Aloysha Lynd and Harry Larson combined for 13 strike outs over five innings. Carlos DeJesus had the only hit for Leadership Academy.

2022 USA Baseball National High School Invitational- Cary, NC
Will Taylor got the start for McQuaid, and struck out three batters in five innings while only allowing two earned runs. Taylor also had an RBI single in the bottom of the fifth inning to cut into the Huntington Beach lead. Aiden Stewart finished with a pair of hits for the Knights, with one being a leadoff triple coming in the fourth inning. Tanner Degrazia and Edward Hall both had a hit as well. Matt Wilmarth came in to pitch relief in the sixth inning and threw two scoreless innings while only giving up one hit.

Matt Jackson pitched a complete game for Williamson, striking out 10 while only giving up four hits to help guide the Marauders to a victory. Williamson scored three runs in the first inning after falling behind 1-0 and never looked back. Tim Vos led Williamson with two RBI and finished with one hit. Matt Defisher tripled in the bottom of the third inning to drive in a run. Jackson also tallied a hit. David Defisher, Tyler Morse and Alan Bouwens also knocked a hit. Henry Shutts got the start for Gananda, and struck out 10 batters in five innings. Luke Ciprich and Andrew Gleason each tallied two hits. Gleason had two RBI.

MARION 0
SODUS 10
Evan Laird and Braedan Tuper both provided Sodus with two hits and two RBI apiece to help Sodus to a win. Tuper homered for one of his hits, while Laird had a pair of singles. Jed Bodine doubled, and stole a base. Ethan Cramer also doubled in the game, and finished with two RBI. Braydn Orbaker picked up the win on the rubber for Sodus, striking out 10 of the 16 batters he faced while only allowing two hits.

Gabe Ward got the start on the mound for Bloomfield and put up a 15-strikeout performance, pitching for six and 2/3 innings and only allowing one hit. Ward also knocked in a one RBI double in addition to what he did on the mound. Aaron Walsh finished his day a perfect 3/3 at the plate. Braedon Smith had a single.

With the game knotted at three in the top of the seventh, Jake Ponticello knocked a double that scored Griffyn Baker to give Hornell the final edge they needed to pull out the close win. Down 3-2 in the sixth, Livonia’s Connor Feehan hit a single that scored Jake Watkins to tie the game at three runs apiece.  Connor Benetiz got the start for Livonia, and put up nine strikeouts and allowed four hits. Benetiz also led Livonia with two hits.

PERRY 1
Luke Donaghue allowed one run on two hits over four innings of work to register his first varsity win. Casey Decker went 2-for-4 with two RBI to lead the Cal-Mum offense. Camden Reed finished 1-for-3 with an RBI and three runs scored. Luke Donaghue was 1-for-2 with a double and an RBI. Jake Cappotelli collected two runs scored and two RBI.

YORK (1-1) 9
Jake Pangrazio got the start on the rubber for York, and delivered 10 strikeouts in five innings while only giving up two hits to help set the tone for York in the win. The sophomore also scored a run in addition to finishing with one hit. Brodie Hatfield knocked in a trio of runners in part to his two doubles, and also crossed home plate twice. Greg Jaroszek came in to give a relief effort and K’d three batters with no hits allowed in the two innings he pitched. Jaroszek also finished with two hits and two RBI, with one of the hits being a double. Both Adam Swede and Joe Bauer produced two hits and a RBI.

Le ROY 8
AVON 5
Le Roy used a six-run fifth inning to seize the lead from Avon and never looked back. Le Roy’s offense was led by Alex Spezzano, who finished a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate with four RBI. Ty Strollo scored three runs, and both of his two hits were doubles. Bryce Lathon finished with two hits including a home run. Christopher Kashorek and Michael Rowland each homered for Avon. Rowland finished with three RBI, and Kashorek also doubled.

GENESEO 7
HAVERLING (4-0) 11
Gavin Buckley and AJ Brotz combined for six hits to help lead Haverling to its fourth straight victory. Buckley finished with two RBI as well as two stolen bases, while Brotz had one RBI and three swiped bases. Brotz also picked up his first win of the season on the mound, striking out seven over six and two-third innings. Cayden Mattison and Ethan Brotz each produced two hits and combined for three RBI. Coling Coots, Cameron Seager, Owen Smith and Keefer Calkins each added one hit. Nicholas Staley and Joseph DeBell each led Geneseo with two hits. Sean McCaughey and Phillip Dotterwiech each tallied a hit.

Ayden Sisson finished his night with a three-hit performance to help pace Bolivar-Richburg to the win. The bats were going early for Bolivar-Richburg, as they opened the game up with a three-run inning and followed it up with two more in the 2nd inning. Reiss Gaines tallied two hits along with two RBI, and Wyatt Karnuth added two RBI as well with his one hit. Trey Buchholz singled. Caden Allen finished with one hit. Sawyer Johnson singled and also contributed two RBI. Buchholz picked up the win throwing three strikeouts in four innings of work as the starter. Caden Allen added four strikeouts in three innings in relief.

Maddy Devore and Monty Kessler paced the Cal-Mum attack with two home runs and eight RBI. Devore finished 4-for-5 in the game with a triple, home run, three RBI and four runs scored. Kessler went 3-for-5 with a round-tripper and five RBI. Taylor Mills was 3-for-5 with two runs scored while Avery Demarco was 2-for-4. Emma Years struck out four and allowed eight hits for the win.
