One team is looking to win its 13th sectional title in program history. The other is seeking the fifth sectional title in school history. Two rivals from the Finger Lakes East division will meet Saturday to decide the 2022 Section V Class B1 Boys’ Basketball Championship. Here’s the breakdown:
No. 2 seed NEWARK REDS (16-6/Finger Lakes East) vs. No. 4 seed PALMYRA-MACEDON RED RAIDERS (16-7/Finger Lakes East)
Scoring offense: Newark (56.5 PPG), Palmyra-Macedon (58.5 PPG)
Scoring defense: Newark (47.6 PPG), Palmyra-Macedon (48 PPG)
Current streak: Newark has won eight straight; Palmyra-Macedon has won three in a row.
How they arrived here: Newark defeated No. 7 seed Geneva, 60-40 in the quarterfinals before downing third-seeded Greece Olympia, 46-43, in the semis.
Palmyra-Macedon beat Rochester Prep by a 67-32 score in the first round. The Red Raiders took down Hornell, 78-46, in the quarterfinals, and finished off eighth-seeded Batavia, 55-46, in the semis.
Last time they met: Newark and Palmyra-Macedon split the season series. Newark beat Pal-Mac at home, 61-41, on December 23rd, and Pal-Mac defeated Newark, 50-34, at home on January 20th.

History 101: Newark ranks fifth among Section V teams with 12 titles in program history, including two since 2010. The Reds won the 2016 B1 title and the 2010 Class A2 title. Newark’s previous championships came in 2004, 1990, 1987, 1986, 1979, 1978, 1951, 1943 and 1923.
Palmyra-Macedon has won four sectional titles in school history. The last time the Red Raiders won a sectional title game was in 2005. Palmyra-Macedon also won in 1997, 1996, and 1992.
