One team is looking to win its 10th sectional title in program history. The other is seeking its fourth sectional title in seven years. Mynderse and Wellsville will meet Saturday to decide the 2022 Section V Class B1 Boys’ Basketball Championship. Here’s the breakdown:
No. 3 seed MYNDERSE BLUE DEVILS (14-8/Finger Lakes East) vs. No. 4 seed WELLSVILLE LIONS (13-8/Independent)
Scoring offense: Mynderse (52.5 PPG), Wellsville (57.8 PPG)
Scoring defense: Mynderse (51.4 PPG), Wellsville (46.7 PPG)
Current streak: Mynderse has won four of its last five; Wellsville has won three in a row.
How they arrived here: Mynderse defeated No. 6 seed World of Inquiry, 63-54 in the quarterfinals before downing second-seeded LeRoy, 52-48, in the semis.
Wellsville beat Penn Yan by a 65-53 score in the quarterfinals. The Lions took down top-seeded Dansville, 60-52, in the semifinals.

Wellsville: Cody Costello, Logan Dunbar, Aidan Riley and Eli Schmidt.

History 101: Mynderse has won nine sectional titles in school history, including four since 2010. The Blue Devils won in 2010, 2011, 2013, and 2017. Other Mynderse championships came in 1975, 1976, 1992, 1994, and 1996. Mynderse ranks tied for eighth all-time in Section V championships.
Wellsville has won three sectional titles in the past six years. The Lions captured titles in 2015, 2016, and 2019. Wellsville’s most recent championship came in a win over Wayland-Cohocton, 69-52.
What’s at stake: A spot in the NYS Far West Regional Qualifier against the winner of the Section V Class B1 final between Newark and Palmyra-Macedon.
A 1 p.m. tip off is scheduled Saturday at Webster Schroeder High School.
