One team is looking to win its eighth sectional title in program history and go back-to-back. The other is seeking the first sectional title in school history. Waterloo and Hornell will meet Friday to decide the 2022 Section V Class B1 Girls’ Basketball Championship. Here’s the breakdown:
No. 1 seed WATERLOO INDIANS (22-0/Finger Lakes East) vs. No. 2 seed HORNELL RED RAIDERS (16-5/Livingston County Division I)
Scoring offense: Waterloo (60.9 PPG), Hornell (65.8 PPG)
Scoring defense: Waterloo (31.5 PPG), Hornell (46.4 PPG)
Current streak: Waterloo has won its last eight games by double-digits; Hornell has won four in a row.
How they arrived here: Waterloo defeated No. 9 seed North Rose-Wolcott/Sodus, 72-21 in the quarterfinals before downing fourth-seeded Palmyra-Macedon, 61-51, in the semis.

Hornell beat Batavia by a 69-33 score in the quarterfinals. The Red Raiders took down Newark, 70-44, in the semis.
Last time they met: Waterloo defeated Hornell, 76-49 on February 14th.

History 101: Waterloo has won seven sectional titles in school history, including three in the past decade. The Indians won the 2013 and 2014 Class B1 titles, and won the Class B2 title in 2021. Waterloo’s previous championships came in 1992, 1993, 1994, and in 2007. Waterloo defeated Dansville last season, 55-31, for the Class B2 block.
Hornell is looking to capture its first sectional title.The last time the Red Raiders made a sectional title game was in 2016. Hornell lost, 49-36, to Livonia in Class B1.
What’s at stake: A spot in the NYS Far West Regional Qualifier against the winner of the Section V Class B2 final between Midlakes and Wellsville.
A 8 p.m. tip off is scheduled Friday at Rush-Henrietta High School.
