Luxury Vacation Rentals Championship Preview: Pavilion and Gananda to play for Girls’ C2 crown

Top-seeded Pavilion is looking to win its second title in three years.

Gananda has beaten the No. 3 seed. The Blue Panthers have taken down the No. 2 seed. Standing between Gananda and the championship is top-seeded Pavilion. The Golden Gophers have been playing great defense in these playoffs, holding opponents to an average of 31.5 points per game. Will Gananda be able to stay hot, or will top-seeded Pavilion prevail? With the game right around the corner, here’s the breakdown:

No. 1 seed PAVILION GOLDEN GOLPHERS (18-2/Livingston County III) vs. No. 6 seed GANANDA PANTHERS (14-7/Wayne County)

Scoring offense: Pavilion (52.5 PPG), Gananda (51.6 PPG)

Scoring defense: Pavilion (33.8 PAPG), Gananda (35.1 PAPG)

Current streak: Pavilion has won three straight; Gananda has won nine in a row.

How they arrived here: Pavilion won in the quarterfinal round against No. 8 seed Warsaw, 46-23. The Golden Gophers won by a score of 44-40 against No.4 seed Kendall in the semifinals. Gananda won a first round matchup against Holley, 57-22 and then went on to defeat No.3 seed Oakfield-Alabama in the quarterfinals, 47-45 on a last second shot by Kaylee Marvin. The Blue Panthers then took down No. 2 seeded Clyde-Savannah 55-53 in the semifinals.

Pavilion: Karlee Zinkievich– Jr., 15.6 PPG, 2.9 RPG, 6.1 APG, 2.0 SPG; Lauren Kingsley– Jr., 15.2 PPG, 8.5 RPG, 3.3 APG, 4.5 BPG and Shea Amberger– Sr., 9.2 PPG, 9.0 RPG, 3.5 SPG

Gananda: Kaylee Marvin– So., 16.5 PPG, 13 RPG, 3.4 BPG;  Nadia Martyniuk– Sr., 8.3 PPG, 6.9 RPG, 3.4 APG, 4.1 SPG and Eva Jenny– So., 8.1 PPG, 5.9 RPG, 2.4 SPG.

Coaches: Ben Schwenebraten (Pavilion), Karin Meuwissen (Gananda)

History 101: Pavilion won the 2020 Class D1 title. Gananda last reached the finals 2019 when the Blue Panthers lost to Avon. Gananda has won two sectional championships, one coming in 2017, and the other in 2011, when they won the state championship.

What’s at stake: A spot in the NYS Far West Sub-Regional against the winner of the C3 championship between Dundee/Bradford and York.

A 1 p.m. tip off is scheduled Saturday, at Rush-Henrietta High School.
