One team is looking to win its third title in four years and fourth in program history. The other is seeking the first sectional title since 2016. Midlakes and Wellsville will meet Friday to decide the 2022 Section V Class B2 Girls’ Basketball Championship. Here’s the breakdown:
No. 1 seed MIDLAKES SCREAMING EAGLES (17-5/Finger Lakes East) vs. No. 3 seed WELLSVILLE LIONS (17-4/Independent)
Scoring offense: Midlakes (50.4 PPG), Wellsville (50.5 PPG)
Scoring defense: Midlakes (31.5 PPG), Wellsville (36.6 PPG)
Current streak: Midlakes has won five straight; Wellsville has won two in a row.
How they arrived here: Midlakes defeated No. 8 seed Dansville, 58-35 in the quarterfinals before downing fifth-seeded Penn Yan, 47-45, in the semis.

Wellsville beat Attica by a 49-39 score in the quarterfinals. The Lions took down Livonia, 59-57, in the semis.
Last time they met: Midlakes and Wellsville did not meet up in the regular season this year.

History 101: Midlakes has won three sectional titles in school history. The most recent coming in 2019 against Batavia. The Screaming Eagles won the 2018 B1 title and 1975 Class B title.
Wellsville’s last sectional title came in 2016 in Class B2. The Lions have won sectional championships in 1990, 1991, and 2009.
What’s at stake: A spot in the NYS Far West Regional Qualifier against the winner of the Section V Class B2 final between Waterloo and Hornell.
A 6 p.m. tip off is scheduled Friday at Rush-Henrietta High School.
