ROCHESTER, N.Y. — It didn’t occur during an NCAA Tournament regional final, but Jackie Funk turned in a performance on Saturday that earns a spot on the timeline of the Penfield girls’ basketball program.
Funk finished with an effective shooting percentage (a statistic that adjusts for the 3-point shot having more value than the standard field goal) of 111 percent during the Patriots’ 55-22 win over Rush-Henrietta.
The junior guard led Penfield with 23 points on 9-of-9 attempts from the floor including 3-of-3 from behind the 3-point arc and 3-of-3 from the free throw line.
“At R-H, she got a quick start and was being aggressive,” said Penfield head coach Mark Vogt. “I knew she shot it well, but it wasn’t until we got back to Penfield that I asked her if she missed any shots.”

Funk scored seven in the first quarter when Penfield opened a 15-point lead.
On the season, Funk has hit 45-of-88 (51.1 percent) from inside the 3-point arc and 44 of 47 free throw attempts. The 5-foot-10 guard is averaging 11.1 points, 5.6 rebonds and 1.8 assists.
“We have been talking to Jackie about being more aggressive on offense,” Vogt added. “She is a good finisher around the basket. Sometimes, though, she passes up shots that she should take.”

Duke’s Christian Laettner finished 10-of-10 from the field and 10-of-10 from the free throw line in the Blue Devils’ overtime win in the 1992 East Region Finals. The Angola, New York native capped his performance with a game winner at the buzzer.
“When we got the stats back from Hudl, I thought of Christian Laettner’s game against Kentucky in 1992. That (Funk’s game) is the only time I remember a payer I’ve coached scoring 20 or more without a miss.”
Penfield (10-5) plays at Gates-Chili on Tuesday. A 7:15 PM tip off is scheduled.
