The Finger Lakes West League has two of the top four teams in Class C3 for Sectionals; Dundee/Bradford, with only one loss to an out-of-Section team and Harley Allendale Columbia, who, entering Wednesday’s game at Allendale Columbia, had just one loss, to the BraveScots.
At the end of the night, Dundee/Bradford doubled up the Wolves, 48-24 to improve to 11-1 on the year.
It was a slow start for both teams offensively, both teams fast out front and creating steals but not converting them into points.
So, the visitors started working the ball inside to Bradford sophomore Mikayla Schoffner and Dundee senior Hallie Knapp.
“I’m fortunate to have had Hallie, this is her fifth year on varsity and not only is she tough but she’s experienced, “ Dundee/Bradford head coach Mike Strait said. “I like having post players that are gonna be tough, physical, that are gonna be strong.”
The BraveScots built a 10-2 lead before HAC senior Eliza Nicosia hit back-to-back three-pointers, including one at the buzzer, to leave a 10-8 score heading to the second quarter.
Dundee/Bradford also benefitted from the Wolves foul trouble. With point guard Anna Thomas on the bench with two fouls, the BraveScots built the lead up, going 10-of-12 from the free throw line.
“She runs the show for them, she has for the last four years so we know, if we take her away, the pace of the game changes,” Strait said of Thomas.
Freshman point guard Kendall Parker led the way at halftime for Dundee/Bradford with five of her seven points coming from the charity stripe and the lead was 24-14 at the half.
In the third quarter, the visitors out-scored HAC 8-2, with all eight points coming in the paint from Jade Roussell, Schoffner and Knapp. The Wolves offense taking the hit as Thomas was forced to stay on the sidelines with four fouls.
Knapp scored nine of her 15 points in the second half and finished the game with 17 rebounds. Schoffner added 12 boards and the BraveScots had 17 steals as a team, led by Parker with five.
Nicosia led all scorers with 18 points to lead HAC.
The win keeps Dundee/Bradford on top of Class C3 and the Finger Lakes West.
“I don’t wanna say we can take it easy but, knowing that they were the only other team in our league with one loss or less and putting some space, helps,” Strait said.
