An 11-0 run over a four minute stretch late in the game helped propel the Roberts men’s basketball team to an 85-82 East Coast Conference win over the University of the District of Columbia on Saturday afternoon.

Down 81-72 with 4:31 remaining in the game the Redhawks needed to quickly get the offense going. The Redhawks had gone cold, not having scored a bucket from the field in over four minutes, allowing UDC to build a nine point advantage.

Senior Rian Carter found the answer to kick start the offense with a layup at the 4:31 mark. That basket led to an 11-0 run that would give the Redhawks the lead back. Freshman Max Mitchell hit the most important shots of his collegiate career by connecting on a pair of free throws and then nailing a 3-pointer to tie the game at 81-81 with just over three minutes left.

The Redhawks took the lead when senior Kevon Wright got on the offensive boards and tipped in Carter’s missed 3-point attempt.

In the final minute of play Roberts closed out the game hitting a pair of free throws.

Carter led all scorers with 23 points on an efficient 8-of-12 shooting day.

The Redhawks got a boost from their bench players today outscoring UDC 37-14 in bench points. Mitchell scored a career high 10 points coming off the bench.

Roberts (5-5, 3-2 ECC) will be back in action on Jan. 15 at home against the University of Bridgeport. Tipoff is scheduled for 4 p.m.
