Thursday Wrap: Kendall’s Snyder has 23-21 night; Walker double-doubles Lyons to second win

Ellie Bergin finished 12 points, eight rebounds, four steals and two assists while Caitlin Bergin had nine points, 10 rebounds and two assists to lead Sutherland. Leora Cook added eight points and nine rebounds, and Ededn Lewis had eight points and six rebounds. Lara Brandt (4), Dylan Madigan (4) and Annie Dodge (3) also scored for Sutherland.

Lillian Mullen scored 26 points to go with seven rebounds and five steals to lead Canisteo-Greenwood. Peyton Peters collected seven rebounds and 11 points in the win. Bailey Mullen scored six points while Brooke Burd (4), McKenna Ferris (4) and Kennedy Richardson (1) also scored for C-G. Jillian Ames led Addison with 16 points. Kerrigan Driskell added nine points, and Anna Carlineo had eight. Bailee Jackson and Erin Terwilliger scored two apiece.

JC Walker posted a double-double with 32 points and 18 rebounds to lead Lyons. Jaiden Lopez added 13 points and eight assists in the win. Jay Battles connected 11 times from the floor and also scored 24 for the Lions. Tony Pierre added 14 points. Mike Briggs (9), CyQuire Norvel, Max Lucieer (2), Jymeer Linzy and Quintin Franklin (1) rounded out the scoring. Kolb Vandaynel led Clyde-Savannah with nine points.

Brayden Steve scored 12 of his game-high 23 points in the first half when Newark grabbed a 35-21 advantage and cruised from there to an opening-night win. The 6-foot-5 junior forward/guard connected five times from the floor over the first 16 minutes and then added 11 more points in the third quarter when the Reds pulled away. Gabriel Caraballo added 10 points, seven assists and six rebounds. Raeshawn Howard had 13 points and eight rebounds. Isaiah Camp (7), Zach Herd (7), Daveon Wright (4), Addison Bump (4), Nick Hayes (3) and Michael Peters rounded out the scoring for Newark. Waterloo’s Devin Mulvey-Salerno had nine points to lead the Indians. Jordan Kraft had seven points, and Nolan Slywka five.

Cameron Smith scored 24 for Bloomfield in the loss. Xavier Williams and Isaac McClelland added nine apiece while grabbing seven and eight rebounds respectively. Calvin Rogers collected six points and six rebounds. Shen Gossage scored two points.

Jayden Ridley-Smith found his shooting stroke just in time. With six minutes and change remaining in the fourth quarter of Thursday’s non-league matchup, the Vertus boys’ basketball team faced a six-point deficit. Scott Essig scored 24 points while Kyle Wade had 19 points, 14 rebounds and six assists to lead Cal-Mum which had a 53-40 advantage after three quarters. Evan Raniewicz contributed 17 points and six rebounds. Cam Reed had seven points. Nate Doll chipped in with four points and three rebounds. Drew Morrow led Dansville with 26 points and 12 rebounds. Collin Gray had 20. Dawson Wadsworth connected on four 3-pointers as part of a 18-point night to go with six assists and two rebounds. Jakob Smith had two points, three rebonds and three assists. Bryce Applin contributed two points and three rebounds.

Coach Dan Dickens: “Good first game for us, Dansville is a very talented team with multiple guys who can score.  Scotty played outstanding and Kyle did what he does.  I was happy with our guards’ defense throughout the game.  Long season and we still have a lot of work ahead of us, but it’s nice getting the first win out of the way.”

Trailing by 10 at half, York limited Bath-Haverling to 16 second-half points to pull out the victory. Tyler Brady led York with 21 points while Maddox Timothy had 14 and Jake Pangrazio, nine. DJ Smith paced Bath-Haverling with 14. Keefer Calkins had 13, and AJ Brotz, eight. The Rams scored 24 points in the first quarter and 23 over the remaining 24 minutes.
